Pokemon In Red: Part One

CHAPTER ONE

It was going to be a long day. Waking up was hard enough. Red arose at an
obviously late
time. 8:15, his clock said. Red panicked. He scrambled, and fell out of his
bed. Heidi
laughed at him.
He threw his pillow at her. "Shut up, Heidi," he said, and ran to the
mirror. Brushing his
teeth, he noted how he looked like Ash in every way, except hair color. He
smiled. He was
lucky to be so much like his idol. And he would be even more like his idol
when he got 150
Pokemon, and became the world's greatest Pokemon Master....below Ash
Ketchum, of course.
Red got dressed quickly, making sure each detail was like Ash. Correct color
for everything,
except his hair. He looked up. He might dye his hair black... then Ash would
see him and it
would be like looking into a mirror for him. Red smiled. He couldn't wait to
see his idol.
He ran downstairs, kissed hs mother goodbye, and proceeded out the door.
Pallet Town wasn't much of a town anymore. It was more of a city. Pikachu
posters were
everywhere. So were Ash posters. And Misty. And Ash and Misty together. Ash
and Misty's
relationship didn't come as much of a suprise to Red. Who cares? A gym
leader falls for
a trainer. Or vice versa... Red neared the Lab. He couldn't wait. He
stopped. Maybe he
should...get a Pikachu, maybe. Red laughed to himself, and continued on. He
made it to Oak's
Lab just in time, the official guarding the entrance said. Red ran up, and
saw Proffesor
Oak for the first time.
Prof. Oak was rather old. He had many wrinkles all around his face. His
glasses were constantly
faling down, and Oak had to keep placing them back up. He had no beard, and
hardly any
hair for that matter.
Oak smiled at Red. "Hello, Red."
Red looked up at Oak. "Good morning, proffesor."
"Really now, that polite stuff is unneccesary. Just call me Oak."
"Yes, Proffesor Oak."
Oak laughed. "Just Oak."
"Yes, sir."
"Be more polite to elders!"
Red stood still, unsure of what to do.
Oak laughed again. "What Pokemon do you want?"
Red thought for a moment. He really wanted a Charmander. They were cool. But
they weren't
very effective against water, and Cerulean City was just the 2nd gym from
Pallet. Red
decided to choose Squirtle. And immediately changed his mind, once again
thinking of that
Cerulean Gym.
"I'll take Bulbasaur." Red said finally.
"Good choice!" And Oak handed Red the ball.
Red said thank you to Oak, and ran down to Viridian City. He would
definately catch all
the Pokemon native to the area, he thought. Rattatas, Pidgeys, and
Spearows... that was
allhe could catch there. He checked his backpack. It contained his PokeDex,
at least
twenty PokeBalls(he had saved several gold for the day he could buy his
PokeBalls, and
realized they cost less than he had thought), and a map. In his pocket he
had a list of
every Pokemon known so far. All 150 he had memorized. He continued to run
toward that
grassy area. He couldn't wait to start catching.

CHAPTER TWO

Red was discouaged slightly. There weren't even half as many Pokemon as he
had expected. And
he hadn't caught a single one. Sadly he trotted to the end of the grassy
areas. At least he got
experience for his Bulbasaur(now at level eight), he thought, and started to
perk up. He saw a
Spearow in a tree. Longing for a new Pokemon, Red launched his Bulbasaur.
"Bulba" the Bulbasaur said. It was staring at the Spearow.
"Spear?" The Spearow turned around, confused, and was met with two vines
straight to the face.
"SWACK!" went the vines as they knocked the Spearow off it's perch. The
Spearow squaked a bit
more, then lay stunned. Red smiled, and threw a PokeBall at it. It was
caught easily.
That's the way the pros do it, thought Red. Catch without being noticed. He
turned to the road.
Much more ahead. It was still the morning, and there was still a lot to
do...

CHAPTER THREE

Viridian City, although smaller than Pallet, was cluttered with people going
to Pallet. Traffic in
Viridian had gone up over 200 percent ever since Ash had become World's
greatest Pokemon
Master with 150 Pokemon. But something troubled Red about that. Pikachu
never evolved...how'd
Ash get a Raichu? Red stopped wondering, and walked into the PokeCenter. He
gave his Pokemon
to the nurse, and sat down. Another boy sat next to him. He was playing with
his Raichu.
"Where'd you get that?" Red asked.
"From Viridian Forest. As a Pikachu, of course."
"But I would have thought---"
"People went to that abandoned Power Plant to catch theirs. Why, I have no
clue. I evolved
my Pikachu into my Raichu once he learned Agility and Swift."
"Smart." Red thought about what he would do with his Pikachu. Evolve it whe
it learned it's
Speed Attacks was probably the best way to do it.
"Mr....Red?" the nurse said.
"That's me." Red went and picked up his two Pokemon.
"Thank you."
Red walked out. He looked at the gym. Only a person with 7 badges could go
in. But who
was the leader? No person with 8 badges would be allowed to tell. Nor would
Ash. He would
just smile and say "You go find out yourself." Red looked at the gym, eying
it. It was
impossible to tell what Pokemon the leader had from the gym. It was a plain
looking
building, and if the citizens of the town didn't know any better, they would
think it was
just a normal building. There wasn't much to do here. Red walked up the
trail to Viridian
Forest. He was definately eager for a Pikachu. Suddenly the boy ran up to
him.
"Huh?" Red turned around.
"Hey- did you know Ash Ketchum is cmoing here tommorow?"
"Say WHAT?" Red suddenly spun around to meet the boy's eyes.
"Yup. I'm going to meet him."
"He's my IDOL!" Red showed how his oufit resembled Ash's.
"Wow. Come on, the Inn is almost out of rooms!"
"What's your name?"
"My name? What's yours?"
"I asked first."
"But I asked second."
"Huh? Fine. I'm Red."
"I'm Davy."
"Come on, Davy!"
Davy and Red, and Davy's Raichu, scrambled to the Inn, checked in quickly,
and jumped
into the bed. Davy's Raichu walked around, checking out the new house.
"I can't wait to meet Ash!" said Red excitedly.
"Yeah. He's passing through to meet his mother at Pallet. Misty's going with
him."
"So?"
"SO? SO? How can you say that? Misty's like..."
"Like what?" Red looked at Davy with a curious look on his face. They seemed
like best
freinds now, but they just met an hour ago.
"Well..."
"Fine. Don't tell me."
"Like you don't know."
"I don't!"
"Have you ever seen Misty?"
"Not in person."
"Answer really."
"Yes."
"Where?"
"All around Pallet. And constantly on TV."
"Really. So you have seen her."
"What does that have to do with anything?"
"Haven't you ever LOOKED at her?"
"I already told you.."
"Nevermind, you'll see when she comes."
Davy walked to his Raichu. Red stayed on the bed. Davy had short brownish
hair, and brown
eyes. He was average for his age(about 14) in height and build. Red looked
at the TV for a
second, then decided to turn it on. After watching about 2 hours of TV in
silence, Davy
spoke.
"I know who Viridian Gym's Leader is."
Red spun around to face him. "You have 8 badges?"
"No."
"Then how-"
"One person told."
"WHAT? Who is it."
"Giovanni."
"No kidding?"
"That's what I heard."
"Wow. You mean THE Giovanni?"
"Uh huh."
"The one who leads Team Rocket is a Gym Leader?"
"Yep."
"Wow." Red really didn't care that much, but it was a suprise anyway.
Eventually Davy and
Red fell asleep. Tommorow was going to be a big day.

CHAPTER FOUR

Waking up wasn't as much of a problem the next day. An alarm clock rung at
6:00 prescise,
and a voice repeated "Time to get up!" over and over. Red woke up with a
start, but Davy
seemed a bit tired. Eventualy Red forced him out of bed. They both got
dressed, and ran to
where Ash would be. And there he was. Ash Ketchum, Pokemon Master. He was
18, and looked it.
Misty was by his side. Red looked at her. What was so important about her?
So she was pretty.
So what? Red never was very interested in girls. He thought that if he ever
would like a girl
it wouldn't be bacuse of looks. It would be how smart she was. But that was
rather hard to
find these days. Girls focused on their hair. Nothing else. Then Red looked
at Misty again.
She was really beautiful. Really. And she looked smart, and Red knew she
wasn't a stupid moron
who concentrated on her hair all day from reading about Ash's quest. So
maybe Ash was lucky. Red
ran up to meet him. He walked along, holding on to Misty with one arm,
waving with the other.
Red jumped up, yelling "Ash!" as he did. Everyone else ignored him, but
Misty looked at Red with
a smile. Straight at him. She poked Ash, and pointed to Red. Ash looked
over, grinned, and
beckoned to Red. Red practically jumped over people to get to Ash, Davy
struggling to follow.
"Hello, there." Ash said to Red.
"Hi," was all Red could say.
Ash smiled, as if he knew what Red was thinking. "What did you want to tell
me?"
"I'm trying to be just like you." Red showed off his resemblance.
"Wow." Misty said. "It's like you ARE Ash, just with red hair!"
"Yeah." Red said.
Pikachu suddenly popped out from behind Ash. He jumped onto Red's shoulder.
"Pika Pika Chu!" said Pikachu excitedly.
"I see Pikachu likes you." Ash said. Pikachu jumped back onto Ash's
shoulder.
"Say, what's your name?"
"...Red."
"So, Red, would you come with me to our hotel after I get there? I want to
talk to you."
"SURE!"
Misty smiled brightly, and whispered somthing to Ash. Ash began to run with
Misty, and Pikachu
jumped off Ash's shoulder and chased them. All three were laughing, and Red
chased them. He
was laughing too. He would have reason too later as well.

CHAPTER FIVE

Red waited for Ash and Misty for a while. He was a bit impatient. Finally
Ash called him in.
Ash turned to Red, smiling.
"I have something to ask you, Red."
"What's that?"
"While in a certain lab, I read documents about a Pokemon called Mew."
"Yes?"
"People have rumored that Mew has been seen. Other new Pokemon as well."
"Really?"
"Red, let me be frank: I need you to help me find Mew."
Red was shocked. He was happy. He was confused.
"Why?"
"Misty says you would be able to do it."
Red turned to Misty.
"You looked like Ash did when he was young," she said. "You could probably
do as much too."
"So, Red," Ash said, "will you?"
"Well..." Red thought for a moment.
"Good. Think it over first."
"I'll accept."
"Good. Misty, please go tell those fans I'm busy."
"Ok, Ash." Misty left.
"Red."
"Yes?"
"I realize that people may not want you telling me about certain things."
"Yes?"
"So I want you to make a deal with me. On paper."
Ash pulled out a peice of paper, and let Red read it. It said:

RED WILL TELL ASH KETCHUM, NO MATTER WHAT, ALL HIS FINDINGS ASAP FOR
REPORTING TO POKEMON
LEAGUE AND ADDING TO POKEDEX IF NECCESSARY. THIS CONTRACT/DEAL WILL NOT BE
TALKED ABOUT TO
ANY PERSON, REGARDLESS.

SIGNATURE Ash Ketchum________ Red_________________

Red overlooked the deal. He turned to Ash. "I accept," he said. He signed
and Ash signed.
Red pocketed the paper.
"I'll tell you when the search will begin. Until then, keep it quiet, Red."
"I will."
Misty returned.
"Goodbye, Red! See you st Cerulean Gym!" she said to Red as he was leaving.
"Bye, Misty. Bye, Ash."
Red walked out feeling great. He would get his Bulbasaur to a Venusaur. And
get a Raichu like
Davy. Davy? Red ran back to the spot. No Davy. He went up to the hotel room.
Davy was there,
watching TV.
"What did Ash tell you?" asked Davy.
"Nothing."
"Yeah right."
"I mean it!"
"It's so obvious you're hiding something."
"It is not."
"What is it." Davy was grinning now.
"NOTHING!"
"Did Ash tell you he broke up with Misty and now you can have her?"
"NO!"
"Okay, okay..."
"Rai rai chu chu!" yelled Raichu. Davy shut up. Red did the same. Nothing
happened the rest of
the day. But Red was eager for the next day...

CHAPTER SIX

Red awoke, and immediately got dressed. Davy got up slowly, and asked where
Red was going.
"To Pewter Gym."
"You mean Viridian Forest. Brock's rock hard."
"I know. I'm getting a Pikachu, and evolving it once it learns Agility. And
Swift."
"Good. Get a Weedle and a Caterpie too."
"I will."
"Good. See you later."
"Bye, Davy."
Red walked out of the hotel. He went in the direction of Viridin Forest.
Finally making it to
the entrance wasn't that hard, really. Once he was in, he looked for a
Pikachu. He saw a couple
bu they ran when they saw him. Red struggled through the tall branches. He
looked up, and saw
a Kakuna.
"Better to get it at it's Weedle stage" thought Red, and moved on.
"KAKUN!" yelled the cocoon Pokemon. Red spun around. The Kakuna was
evolving? And so were others
all around him.
"Don't tell me they resent not being caught" Red said. He tried to run, but
it was hopeless. A
pack of Beedrills were attacking.
"Help me!" yelled Red. A trainer saw him, smirked, and ignored the
Beedrills. Red got up
and started to run. The Beedrills came after him. Slowly they approached.
Soon they could---
"PIKA!!!" was all REd heard as a blinding flas of light struck the
Beedrills. It didn't kill
them, but they were stunned and ran away.
"Thank you." Red said.
"Pika chu." the Pikachu replied.
"Come on! Let's go catch one!"
"Pika!"
Red ran over to the stunned Beedrills. He threw a PokeBall. The Beedrill
went in no problem.
After catching it, Red turned to the Pikachu.
"You want to be my Pokemon?"
"Pika!"
"I take it as a yes."
The Pikachu nodded. Red started to talk to it.
"I wanted to evolve you once you learned your speed attacks. Is that okay?"
"Pika." The Pikachu nodded.
"Great!"
"Cha!"
"Let's go!"
And they ran into the depths of the Forest.

CHAPTER SEVEN

"Maybe running into the depths of the Forest was't such a good idea" Red
said slowly.
"Chuuu." His Pikachu replied, scared.
"But still, I do now have a Caterpie. And a Weedle."
"Chu!"
"How will we get out?"
Red looked around. He tok out a compass. Turning a bit, he started to walk.
"This is the right way, Pikachu," Red said.
"Pikapi!"
"What is it?"
Red looked to see a triner blocking their way.
"You."
"Me?" Red seemed confused.
"Yes, you."
"What?"
"We battle here."
Red agreed, and they each stled into a side.
"One on one Pokemon match." the trainer stated.
"This isn't a-" Red said.
"A ONE ON ONE POKEMON MATCH." The statment was firm.
"Fine. Pikachu, GO!" Red yelled, and Pikachu stepped foward, ready for
battle.
"All right, I'll choose GEODUDE!"
"Geodude?!?" Red suddenly became rather frightened. Electric attacks
wouldn't affect
Geodude.
"Geo" stated the Geodude.
"Geodude, use your Rock Drop" the man said.
"Dude" the GeoDude answered. It picked up the ground and hurled it at
Pikachu. Frantically the
Pikachu dodged the attack.
"Pikachu, Swift Attack!" Red yelled. His Pikachu slammed into the Geodude.
IT was knocked
back a bit, but remained fine.
"GEO!" It yelled, charging at the Pikachu. Now extremely afraid, Pikachu
jumped over the
Geodude. In what seemed to be a sudden reflex, Pikachu bashed Geodude's
head, launcing itself
farther.
"What?" the trainer said. His geodude stood, stunned.
"I WIN!" Red yelled.
"Pika!" his Pikachu said, proclaming victory.
"Here." The trainer handed Red 7 gold.
"Thank you. Good battle?"
"Indeed."
The trainer walked off. Red was really happy. He was going on great. Really
great.

Part 2 will be coming soon.
