Pokemon: the Next Generation
      Chapter 21

Flint looked at his map of Celadon City. "Let's see...Celadon gym..."
"What makes you think we're gonna go to the gym first?" asked Shari.
"Huh?" said Flint as he looked at Shari. "Where else would we go?"
"Look around! This city's huge! There's plenty to do!"
"Well, we have to go the gym. It's first priorities."
 "For you, maybe."
"Fine. Leave. I don't want your support, or need it!"
"Fine! I'm outta here!" she yelled as she left.
"I'm gonna go with her," said Jackie. "We're going shopping. C'mon
Growlithe."
"Okay," Ollie agreed. "Meet you in an hour?"
 "Okay."
"Goodbye, snuggle muffin," Ollie said in a babyish voice.
"Bye, snoogy woogy," Jackie said as she kissed him on the cheek.
Flint rolled his eyes and gagged. "Oh, c'mon you guys. Bye, Jackie," he
said as he dragged Ollie towards the gym.
Jackie and Growlithe ran after Shari. "Hey! Wait up!" she called. After she
was right by Shari, she asked, "Are you okay? Your face is kinda red."
"Oh, it's just Flint. He's acting like a turd," Shari replied, frowning.
"Since when do you care what he thinks?"
"What? I don't care what he thinks!"
"Then why are you so mad?"
Shari just ignored the question and changed the subject. "So what are we
gonna go do?"
 "We're gonna go shopping, girl!"
 "Gro-growlithe?" Growlithe moaned.
"What? Do you not wanna go?" asked Jackie.
 Growlithe nodded.
"Well, too bad, bud. We're gonna try some clothes on you too," she said as
she laughed.
 "Gro-lithe," Growlithe mumbled. (Oh joy.)

"Hey Pikachu," Ollie started as they walked to the gym. "Are you okay?
You've been kinda quiet."
"Pi pikachu pika," Pikachu answered. (Oh, I've just been thinking.)
 "About your long lost dad?"
Pikachu nodded, and then said, "Pikachu pika chu pi? Pi chu pika kachu."
(Speaking of quiet, Flint how come your so quiet? You haven't said a word
since we split up with the girls.)
Flint replied, "Well, I've been thinking maybe I shouldn't have been so
mean to Shari. Maybe I hurt her feelings."
"Since when do you care about Shari's feelings?" asked Ollie.
 Flint couldn't answer. "Umm..."
Ollie and Pikachu looked at each other and smiled.
Then Ollie looked ahead and pointed. "There's the gym."
Flint and Pikachu looked up. "Yeah! Let's go!" Flint exclaimed, relieved
that they got off the subject of Shari and him.

"How do you like this shirt?" asked Jackie as she held up to herself.
Shari was just staring at the ground.
 "Shari? Shari!"
She looked up. "Huh? What'd you say?"
"You spacing out or somethin'? What's wrong?"
"Oh, uh nothing. That shirt's fine."
"Are you still mad at Flint?"
"What?! No! I was never mad at him! I don't care what he says."
Jackie giggled. "I think that you like him."
"Huh? Yeah right! I hardly even like him as a friend! Don't even think
that! Just forget about it! Completely block it out of y-"
Jackie cut her off. "Okay! Okay! I get the point! You don't like him!"
"Okay, good. Glad we got that settled."
She likes him, Jackie thought. Yep she does.

Flint read the sign in front of the gym. " 'Erika, the nature-loving
Pokemon gym leader.' Nature huh? She must use grass Pokemon. I could sure
use some of Jackie's Pokemon right about now. Oh, well. Guess I'll just use
someone else."
"Would you shut up and just go in?" Ollie asked.
They walked in, and a beautiful lady came up to them. "Hello. Welcome to
Erika's grass Pokemon gym. We would like to ask you one question, and if you
answer correctly, you may go inside."
 "Okay," Flint said.
 "Do you like perfume?"
"Yes, of course I do! It smells great!"
 "Good answer! Follow me please!"
Ollie whispered in Flint's ear as they were following the lady, "You think
it smells good?"
"Not really, but Dad told me to say yes if they asked me. He said no, and
got kicked out," Flint whispered back.
 "Oh."
Soon, they were in the stadium room and the lady walked up to another lady
that was telling stories to some children. She walked up to Flint and Ollie
and said, "Hello there. I am Erika, the gym leader here. So, who are you
two?"
"I'm Flint and this is my best friend, Ollie, and on my head is Pikachu,"
he said as he shook her hand.
"Pika pika chu," Pikachu said with glazed eyes.
"What did he say?" asked Erika.
"He said you were pretty," Flint replied.
"Oh, well thank you," she said as she kissed Pikachu's head.
Pikachu blushed and laughed a love sick laugh. Then she looked at Flint's
hat and thought a moment. "Hmmm...where have I seen that hat before?"
Flint took Pikachu off of his head, and then took off his hat and looked at
it. "This is an official Pokemon League hat. It belongs to my dad, but he
let me use it for good luck. You might know him. He's Ash Ketchum."
"Oh yes! He saved my Gloom from a fire a number of years ago. This gym was
burning and he just went in and saved it for me."
"He did? Geez, he never tells me any of this."
"Probably because he wants you to learn it for yourself to see if anyone
remembers. And when you see him, tell him I said thanks again."
 "Okay."
"Now, I assume you came here for a Pokemon battle?"
 "Yep."
 "Alright, let's begin!"

Jackie, Shari and Growlithe went over to an ice cream shop and ordered
some...ice cream (what else would they do?)
"I'm not really hungry," Shari said. "But you can get some ice cream if you
want."
"Oh, c'mon, Shar. Ice cream makes ya feel better," Jackie replied.
 Shari sighed. "Fine."
"Okay, Growlithe. What do you want?"
"Lithe Growlithe!" (Chocolate chip cookie dough!)
After they got their ice cream and went to sit at a table, Jackie said,
"So...you've been kinda quiet. If you don't start talking, I'm gonna start
talking to Growlithe. Now I think that that's pretty pathetic if I can keep
up a conversation with a Pokemon better than with you."
"Well, I've just been thinking," Shari replied.
"I still think you like Flint." Shari started to talk, but Jackie stopped
her. "Don't say anything. I know you do! Just admit it!"
Shari didn't say anything, and Jackie smiled.

"Okay, Flint! Two pokemon!" Erika yelled.
"Fine!" he took out a Pokeball and threw it. "Go, Caterpie!"
A red beam of light came out of his Pokeball, and out came the
caterpillar-like Pokemon.
"Caterpie, huh?" Erika said. "Better choose one of my best Pokemon." She
took out a Pokeball. "Go, Gloom!"
"Ewww, what's that crap coming out of its mouth?" asked Ollie.
Flint took out his Pokedex: "Gloom, the fluid that oozes from its mouth
isn't drool. It is nectar used to attract prey."
Flint put his Pokedex back in his pocket and made his first command.
"Caterpie, tackle it!"
Caterpie charged towards Gloom, but Gloom dodged. "Gloom, poisonpowder!"
Erika ordered.
Gloom shot some powder towards Caterpie, but Caterpie dove out of the way.
 "Now use Absorb!"
Gloom jumped on Caterpie before it could move, and sucked the life out of
it.
 "Caterpie, counter attack!"
Caterpie knocked Gloom off, and then charged towards it, knocking it down.
 "Now use string shot!"
Caterpie shot out sticky thread from its mouth at Gloom and wrapped it up.
"Try to break free, Gloom!" Erika shouted.
But it was no use. Gloom was in there good.
"Alright! Great job, Caterpie!" said Flint.
 "Gloom, return," she sighed.
He was just about to take out a Pokeball and call Caterpie back, but it
started glowing.
 "It's evolving!" Ollie exclaimed.
After it stopped glowing, it looked completely different, and was in a hard
shell, or was a shell.
Flint took out his Pokedex again: "Metapod, this Pokemon is vulnerable to
attack while its shell is soft, exposing its weak and tender body."
"That's encouraging," Flint said sarcastically. "But anyway, good job,
Caterpie, I mean, Metapod!"
Flint went over to hold it to feel its shell, then remembered about the
match. He then called back Metapod. "So, who are you gonna choose?" he asked
Erika.
"Let's see..." she took out another Pokeball and threw it. "Go, Bulbasaur!"
"Hmm...this could get interesting," he took out a Pokeball. "Bulbasaur,
let's see who's stronger!"
After Flint's Bulbasaur came out of his Pokeball, Erika said, "Two
Bulbasaur's huh? This really could get interesting..."
"Yep! Bulbasaur, vine whip!" Flint yelled.
Bulbasaur started to whip its vines in Erika's Bulbasaur's direction.
"Bulbasaur, tackle!" she said.
Erika's Bulbasaur (we'll just call it Bulbasaur 2) ran towards Flint's
Bulbasaur (Bulbasaur 1), dodging the vine whips along the way, and it hit
Bulbasaur 1 down.
After Bulbasaur 1 got back up, Flint said, "Okay, Bulbasaur, razor leaf
now!"
Bulbasaur 1 launched a lot of sharp leaves towards Bulbasaur 2, and
Bulbasaur 2 tried to dodge them, but there were too many, and it got cut a
lot.
Flint noticed that the sun was out. "Hmm...Bulbasaur use solar beam now!"
"Bulba-bulba-bulba-SAUR!!!!"  Bulbasaur 1 yelled as it drew in light and
shot the huge beam a Bulbasaur 2, making it faint.
 "Bulbasaur!" yelled Erika. "Return."
"Alright! Great job, Bulbasaur!" Flint exclaimed as he hugged Bulbasaur.
"You did well, Flint. You are a superb trainer, and as proof of your
victory," she pulled out a badge and put it in his hands, "here is the
rainbowbadge."
Flint held it up in the air. "Yes! I got the rainbowbadge!!"
"Good work, Flint!" said Ollie, clapping.
"Pi pi pikachu pika pi," Pikachu said, also clapping. (Yeah, good job Flint
and Bulbasaur!)
Pikachu and Bulbasaur then started dancing around.
After they said goodbye, they met Jackie and Shari outside of the gym.
"Hey guys," Jackie said. "Did you get a rainbowbadge?"
"Yep," Flint said as he showed it to her. "Oh, and Shari?"
 "Yes?" she asked.
"Sorry about being mean to you earlier."
This surprised Shari. "Oh, um...no problem. Sorry for not watching the
match."
 "It's okay."
Jackie laughed and Shari signaled for her to stop.
 "What's so funny?" asked Ollie.
"Oh, uh nothing," Jackie said, still trying to keep her laughs in.
So, after they went around and looked at everything, they continued on
their journey, heading towards whatever city was the next one.
