Pokemon: the Next Generation
          Chapter 18

Pokemon Tower was tall, and had some sort of weird head or
something with horns on the top of it, like a statue.
"Well, guys, let's go!" Flint yelled as he walked inside. He
didn't hear any footsteps behind him, and turned around.
"Um...we'll wait out here for you, Flint," said Ollie, not
moving.
 "Yeah, good luck," encouraged Jackie.
Shari sat down. "Boy, my feet hurt," she said. "Guess I can't
go in with you. Darn."
"Pi-pi, pikachu," said Pikachu. (Go get that ghost Pokemon,
Flint.)
"Oh, come on guys!" Flint whined. "Remember what Nurse Joy
said? The ghosts probably won't come out anyway."
"Well, you can't be too careful," said Jackie.
"Yeah, and who said we were afraid?" asked Ollie.
"Gosh, Ollie. Since you're so brave, why don't you go in with
Flint?" said Jackie as she pushed Ollie.
"Hey! Hey! I never said I was brave! I just...don't feel like
going in there!"
"We'll wait out here for you," said Shari.
"Yes. And Pikachu has just volunteered to go in with you
guys," Jackie said.
 "Pikachu?!" yelled Pikachu. (What?!)
"Okay, come on, Pikachu!" said Flint as him and Ollie stepped
inside the tower.
"Chu. Pika-pika," Pikachu said, looking at the ground. (Fine.
I'm no coward.)
"Good luck, guys," said Jackie and Shari as the doors closed.
"Ah!" Ollie jumped as he turned around.
 "What?" asked Flint.
"The doors just closed by themselves!"
"Ah, that's okay. They're supposed to do that in these old
places." He noticed something. "Geez, its dark."

"Do you think they'll be okay?" asked Shari.
"Yeah. They can take care of themselves. They won't need our
help at all."
Suddenly, the front door of the tower opened and Flint
stepped out and said, "Hey, Jackie. Can we borrow your Charmander?
It's really dark in there."
"Uh...okay," she said as she took out her Pokeball with the
Charmander inside. She threw it to Flint. "Here."
 "Thanks."
 Then he went back inside.
"They won't need our help at all, huh?" Shari asked, raising
an eyebrow.
 Jackie shrugged.

Flint threw the Pokeball. "Charmander, go!"
A red beam of light shot out from the Pokeball and Charmander
appeared. "Charm-charm!" it said.
"Charmander, we need you to light the way for us," Flint
explained.
Charmander shook its head and sat down.
"Why isn't it obeying me?" Flint asked.
"Chu pika-pi. Pikachu-pi," Pikachu said. (Think about it.
Your not this Charmander's master.)
 "Oh yeah."

"Well,  I'm not sure about Flint, but I know my Ollie can
take care of himself," Jackie said to Shari.
The doors opened again, and this time, Ollie stepped out.
"Hey, Jackie. We need you in here. Charmander won't obey us."
Shari looked at Jackie and laughed. "Pay up."
Jackie reluctantly reached in her pocket and pulled a five
out. "Here."
"Thank you so much. Let's play again sometime," Shari said as
she took the money.
Jackie walked in the tower and looked back. "Hey, Shari!
Aren't you coming?"
"No way! I'm not gonna get spooked by any ghosts!"
 Jackie shrugged. "Okay. Suit yourself."
Flint popped out from the door. "Yeah! Have fun being out
here by yourself. Though I don't know how much fun its going to be
because, well, who knows what kind of weird things are out here?"
then he slowly went back inside and laughed an evil laugh.
Shari thought a moment. All of a sudden, she heard a noise
and instantly ran inside. "Hey guys! Wait up!" she called.
"Well, Shari. Have fun outside?" Flint teased.
Shari looked for an excuse, "It was...cold out there."
 "Sure it was."
"Listen buddy, you're askin' for a kick in the nuts."
"Okay, bye," Flint said as he ran behind Pikachu.
"Pi! Pikachu chu!" yelled Pikachu. (Hey! I don't wanna get
kicked in the nuts!)
"Oh, its okay. You got your thundershock and stuff."
"Pika Pikachu!" (But I can't hurt a girl!)
"Oh, Pikachu, you're so sensitive," said Shari as she lifted
Pikachu and kissed him on the cheek.
Pikachu blushed and smiled. "Chu Pika ka Pikachu. Pi Pikachu
ka, Pika-pi," (I got kissed by a pretty girl. I have a better love
life than you, Flint.)
"Don't rub it in," Flint mumbled.
"Hey guys!" Ollie exclaimed. "Don't forget we're here to get
a ghost Pokemon."
"Yeah," Jackie said. "The only reason we're here is because
of you, Flint."
Flint put on a determined face. "Right. Let's go."
Jackie turned her attention to Charmander. "Okay, Charmander.
We need you to go first. Light the way."
Charmander nodded and started walking. "Charm charmander."
They walked along for a little while until they came upon a
hall with a bunch of doors.
"It's gonna take too long to look through all these doors, so
we'll have to split up," Flint said.
"S-split up?" Jackie asked, scared. "But what if we get lost
or something?"
"We're only going to split up through this hall, then we'll
meet back up."
"Well, who's going with who?" asked Shari.
"Me and Jackie can go together!" Ollie exclaimed.
"No, because you guys will get distracted doing all your
mushy stuff," Flint said, annoyed. "I'll go with Jackie and
Charmander, and you go with Shari and Pikachu."
 "Fine," said Ollie.
Flint pointed. "We will take this side, and you guys can take
this one."
So they split up, not knowing what lay ahead of them. Flint,
Jackie and Charmander stepped in a dark room, with a chandelier up on
the ceiling.
"Alright, Charmander," Jackie said, "light up that
chandelier."
Charmander nodded and blew fire from its mouth, lighting the
chandelier. After the room was lighted, they saw that the room was
full of old paintings and antiques.
"Woah," Flint said as his eyes widened. "Look out all this
stuff."
"You think these are the people that use to live here?"
"Probably. We could sell all this stuff and make a bundle."
"We can't do that! This stuff is just too...antiquey to
sell," Jackie stated as something caught her eye, and she looked over
at some jewelry sitting on a drawer with a mirror. "Wow! Look at this
necklace!" she exclaimed as she picked it up and put it on. She
looked at Flint. "How do I look?"
"G-" he stopped. He looked behind Jackie in the mirror and
there was a ghost in there! "J-Jackie? D-d-don't look now, but th-th-
th-"
 "What Flint?"
Flint covered his eyes and pointed at the mirror. "G-g-g-"
She turned around. "AHHHHHHH!!!!!" she screamed. "IT'S A
GHOST!!!"
 "CHARMANDER!!!" Charmander shrieked in terror.
"Run!!" Flint yelled as him, Jackie and Charmander ran out of
the room. Then he thought of something. "Wait a minute! That's a
ghost Pokemon! That's what we're here for!" he yelled as he ran back
in the room.
 "Are you insane?!" Jackie yelled.
 "Maybe."

"Turn on the lights," Shari said after they got in the room.
Ollie looked for the switch and flipped it, but nothing
happened. "The lights are dead," he said.
 "How typical," Shari muttered.
"Pi-Pika Pikachu," Pikachu stated. (I can use my Flash move
to light up the place.)
So Pikachu lighted up the room.
 "That's better," Shari said, relieved.
Ollie looked around and saw tables with silverware. "What is
this? Some sort of dining room?"
 "I guess so."
Pikachu's ears flipped up. "Pika-Pikachu!" he exclaimed as he
ran out of the room into the hall. (I hear screaming!)
"Pikachu! Where are you going?" asked Ollie as him and Shari
followed.
They ran into the hall and saw Jackie and Charmander just
standing there, shivering, with Pikachu trying to comfort them.
"Pika pika pi?" he asked. (Where's Flint?)
 "Jackie? What happened?" asked Shari.
 Jackie looked up at them. "W-w-we s-saw a g-g-g-"
"Alright you ghost Pokemon! I'm gonna capture you!"
"Hey! That's Flint!" Ollie exclaimed as he ran into the room
where we heard Flint's voice.
Flint pulled out his Pokedex: "Gastly, a ghost gaseous
Pokemon. Almost, invisible it cloaks the target and puts it to sleep
without notice."
Flint put his Pokedex back in his pocket. "Well, Gastly, you
won't put any of my Pokemon to sleep!" he pulled out a Pokeball and
threw it. "Caterpie, we'll see how you do!"
A red beam of light came from his Pokeball and Caterpie shot
out.
 "Caterpie, string shot!"
Caterpie shot out sticky stuff from his mouth towards Gastly,
but Gastly disappeared, and then reappeared behind Caterpie. Caterpie
turned around and screamed its little sound and ran behind Flint's
leg.
"It's not experienced enough to fight Gastly!" Ollie
exclaimed.
"No, I still believe he can do it!" Flint yelled. "Caterpie,
tackle!"
Caterpie charged towards Gastly and lunged at it, but then
Gastly disappeared and Caterpie missed. It then reappeared again in
the same place.
"Regular attacks won't work against ghost Pokemon," Ollie
said.
Gastly flew over to Caterpie and licked it, making it become
paralyzed.
"Caterpie!" Flint yelled as he reluctantly took out
Caterpie's pokeball.
 "Return!"
And with another red beam of light, Caterpie went back inside.
 Gastly spoke up. "G-Gastly?"
Pikachu translated. "Pi-Pikachu Pika." (He's asking why we
want to capture him.)
Flint told him. "Because we need to beat Sabrina, the gym
leader in Saffron City, and the only way we have a chance is if we
get a ghost Pokemon."
 "Gastly Gast," Gastly said.
"Pika Pika kachu." (He says that his friend has already been
to Sabrina's, but then came back.)
 "Who's your friend?"
 "G-gast."
 "Pika-pi." (Haunter.)
 "What happened to him?"
 "Gastly-Gast ly."
"Pikachu pika-pikachu." (Sabrina became evil again and
Haunter didn't want to help an evil trainer.)
"Well, we could certainly use his help in Saffron."
"G-gast gastly," Gastly said as he floated out of the room.
"Pi-ka chu pika." (He wants us to follow him)
So Gastly led the way out of the room as Flint, Ollie and
Pikachu followed. But as soon as they got out of the room,
"AAAAHHHH!!!! THERE IT IS!!!" Jackie screamed.
"Don't worry, Jackie," Ollie said. "We're supposed to follow
it."
 "What's going on?" asked Shari.
"We're still not sure yet. Just follow us."
They followed, and Gastly came upon a bookshelf. He pulled
out a certain book, and the shelf turned around, revealing a secret
passage.
"Why is it that these old houses always have those things?"
Shari asked.
They went down a dark corridor and into a room with a couch
and a TV. And there watching the TV was Haunter himself, and Gengar
too.
"Th-three g-ghosts?" Jackie stuttered as she ran behind Ollie.
"G-ga-gastly," Gastly said, pointing to Haunter.
"Pikachu-Pika Pi," Pikachu translated. (Gastly said that this
one here is Haunter and we can talk to him as much as we please.)
"Gengar g-geng?" Gengar asked. (Who are these people?)
"G-gast gastly-y," Gastly replied. (These people want to beat
Sabrina and need our help.)
The mention of Sabrina's name took Haunter's attention of the
screen. "Haunter?" (Sabrina?)
"Can we talk to you a minute?" Flint asked.
"H-haun. Haunter." (Sure. What do you want to know?)
 Pikachu translated.
"Well, we need your help. We need you to come with us to
Saffron City and help us beat Sabrina."
Haunter shook his head. "Haunter! Haun-haunter." (No! I don't
wanna go back there ever again.)
 "Why not?"
 "H-haunter haunter. Haunter-ter haunt! Ha-haunter." (Because
Sabrina is evil again and I don't want to deal with that. She abused
and hit me and used her psychic power against me before I left! She
became like that after her parents died and she just became bitter.)
"But don't you want to make her better again? Don't you care
about her?"
 "Ha-ha-haun." (Of course I do.)
"G-gengar!" Gengar said. (I'll come with you and help you
out!)
 "Gastly!" Gastly exclaimed. (Me too!)
 "Ha-haunter?" (Really guys?)
 "Gen-gengar!" (Sure!)
"What's going on, Pikachu?" Flint asked, noticing that
Haunter was looking happier now.
"Pi-pika pikachu chu!" Pikachu exclaimed. (Haunter's going
back to Saffron with us now, because Gengar and Gastly are going too!)
 "Really? Alright, let's go!"
So they all left the Pokemon Tower and headed towards Saffron
City, Flint, looking to get his next badge, Haunter, Gengar, and
Gastly, looking to make Sabrina good again, and Ollie, Jackie, Shari
and Pikachu, just glad to get out of there.
