As soon as they got in the gym, they felt a chill. Not
because it was cold, but because...well, they didn't know what, but
they sure weren't comfortable.
"Do we have to be in here?" asked Shari.
"Yeah, this place is freaky," said Jackie.
"I know, but I have to get a badge here," Flint said,
determined.
"Pika-Pikachu," said, Pikachu, scared. (It's giving me the
creeps.)
"AAAHHHHH!!!" Ollie screamed as he felt something grab his
leg.
"AAHHHHHHH!!!!" Flint, Jackie, and Shari all screamed in
unison, but not knowing what they were screaming at.
Ollie looked down, and there was Pikachu, grabbing onto his
leg, with his eyes shut tight, scared.
"Pikachu!" yelled Ollie. "Don't ever do that again! You
scared the crap out of me!!"
Flint laughed and said jokingly, "Yeah, look! There's a bunch
of crap dripping from his pants."
Pikachu opened his eyes and looked up. "Pi-Pi. Pikachu." (I'm
sorry. I was just freaked out.)
Ollie smiled. "Nah, that's okay. I understand."
"Here Pikachu, get on my shoulder," Flint said.
Pikachu ran up on Flint's shoulder, when all of a sudden,
they heard an eerie voice. "Welcome..." it said, as the source of the
voice walked out from the shadows. He was tall, dark, and thin.
"W-who are you? A-are you the g-gym leader?" Flint stuttered.
"Oh no. I am one of her students. But you will now have a
Pokemon battle with me and in exchange, I will give you some advice
about the gym leader. Which one of you will challenge me?"
Flint stepped up. "I will!"
"Then so be it," he took out a Pokeball. "Go, Exeggute!"
A bunch of little egg-looking Pokemon popped out.
"What's that?" Flint asked as he took out his Pokedex:
"Exeggcute, a grass and psychic Pokemon. It is often mistaked for
eggs, and, when disturbed, they'll quickly gather and attack in
swarms."
Ollie rubbed his tummy. "Now I'm hungry. Scrambled would be
nice, or maybe basted, or..."
"Stop, Ollie! You're making me hungry too!" Jackie said,
rubbing her tummy too.
"Same with me," Shari said as her stomach growled.
Flint put his Pokedex back in his pocket. "Hmmm...psychic,
huh? Well, the closest thing I have to that is Psyduck!" he took out
a Pokeball, and threw it. "Psyduck, go!"
A red beam of light came from his Pokeball and Psyduck popped
out. "Psyduck!" it yelled.
"By the way, how many Pokemon are we gonna use?" Flint asked.
"We will each use one," the man said.
"Okay! Psyduck, disable!" Flint yelled.
Psyduck looked at him, confused.
"Oh yeah! He needs to hurt his head first. You may begin your
attacks," Flint said to the man.
"Uh, okay...Exeggute, barrage!" the man ordered.
Exeggute started throwing coconuts at Psyduck's head.
"Yeah! Keep it coming!" Flint said. After awhile, Flint
yelled, "Psyduck! Now use disable!"
Psyduck's eyes turned blue and he looked at Exeggute. Nothing
happened.
"What?!" Flint exclaimed.
"Ha! Ha! Ha!" the man laughed. "Looks like you need to train
your Psyduck harder!"
"Psyduck, confusion!"
Psyduck closed its eyes and then launched confusion at
Exeggute, but still nothing happened. Psyduck was frustrated and
confused himself.
"Don't you know your little attacks won't work?!" the man
sneered. "Exeggute, hypnosis!"
Exeggute's eyes turned red, and faced Psyduck. Psyduck was
getting drowsy.
"Hang in there, Psyduck!" Flint encouraged. "Don't fall
asleep!"
But it was no use. Psyduck fell on the ground, useless.
"Exeggute, barrage!" the man ordered.
Exeggute started throwing coconuts at Psyduck again.
"Okay! Okay! I forfeit!" Flint yelled as he took out a
Pokeball and called Psyduck back.
"Good!" the man took out his Pokeball and called back
Exeggute.
Flint looked at the ground, and Ollie came up to him. "Don't
worry, Flint. I know how it feels, but you'll get it next time."
"Now I will tell you my advice!" said the man. "Regular
little attacks don't work against Sabrina, the gym leader! She's even
more powerful than me! If you do what you did just now, you will get
creamed."
"So, then how can I beat her?" asked Flint.
"Use ghost Pokemon. If you have ghost Pokemon, you might have
a chance."
Jackie and Shari didn't like the idea of that. "G-ghosts?"
they stuttered.
"Where can I find one?" Flint asked.
"Go to Lavender Town. There is a tower there that is haunted
with ghost Pokemon."
"Chu Pika-Pi? Pikachu!" asked Pikachu. (Do we really have to
go there? I hate ghosts!)
"Well, if we want to beat Sabrina, yes. So, let's go."
They all started to leave, but all of a sudden, they heard
the voice coming from nowhere. "You're not going anywhere!"
"What? Who's there?" asked Ollie.
All of a sudden, bolts came over the doors.
"Hey!" yelled Flint. "Who's talking?!"
Shari and Jackie were shivering. "W-what's g-going on?"
Jackie stuttered.
"W-who is that?" asked Shari, scared.
"I am Sabrina, the gym leader! And you will never return to
the outside world!" said the voice, who, now they knew, was Sabrina.
Suddenly, a man popped out of nowhere! "You're not getting
these ones!" he yelled as he teleported everyone.
Before they knew it, they were outside the gym. They looked
around confused.
"What just happened?!" Ollie asked.
"How'd we get out here?!" exclaimed Flint.
"Teleportation," the man said.
"Hey!" Jackie said. "You're the trainer from inside the gym!"
"Yes."
"You're not one of her students?" asked Shari.
"No. That was just a cover up," the man said as he sat on a
bench. "She used to be so nice."
"Who?" asked Flint as he sat next to him.
"Sabrina. She can never make up her mind. First she was a
good little girl, then she became evil, then she became good again."
"Well, what made her change her mind again?" asked Ollie.
"She's been like that ever since her parents died. So bitter,
so...full of hate. It was your father's doing that made her better
the last time."
Flint eyes widened. "What? My father? As in, Ash Ketchum?"
"Yes."
"How did you know? Your psychic powers or something?"
"No. You just look a lot like him. I never knew him
personally, but I saw him on TV and stuff when he beat the Elite
Four."
"The Elite Four?" asked Shari. "Oh yeah! The Pokemon League."
"Anyway, I am Jeremy, Sabrina's cousin, and I need you to
help Sabrina. I know there is still good in her, trying to get out.
But for now, I must leave."
And with that said, he disappeared.
"How does he do that?" asked Jackie.
"I don't know, but we gotta get over to Lavender Town!
Remember, we're supposed to go get a ghost Pokemon!" Flint said as
he
ran down the street, heading out.
The others followed, reluctantly, not at all in the mood to
be freaked out by ghosts.
"Is this really necessary, Flint?" Ollie asked. "I mean,
can't you at least try to beat Sabrina without ghost Pokemon?"
"No. You heard the guy. We can't beat Sabrina. We couldn't
even beat him," Flint explained.
"Pika-Pi?" Pikachu asked. (Are you saying I'm weak?)
"No, it's just that you or any of my Pokemon are stronger
than Sabrina's."
Lavender Town was called the Noble Purple Town, but Ollie,
Jackie, Shari, and Pikachu found nothing noble about it (or purple
for that matter). It was dark and lonely.
Flint didn't care though. He was determined to get a ghost
Pokemon. "Guys, let's go the Pokemon Center first and get our Pokemon
all healed up. I'm not sure how hard its gonna be to get a ghost
Pokemon."
So they walked over to the Pokemon Center, but even that
looked scary, and looked abandoned, but they walked in anyway.
Inside it was the same thing as outside, dark and lonely.
"Hello? Is there anyone in here?" Flint called.
"Is this place even running anymore?" Shari asked.
Jackie looked around and shivered. "This place is as scary as
Sabrina's gym."
Ollie wrapped his arms around her. "Don't worry. I'll protect
you."
Flint rolled his eyes. "Geez, guys. Mushy even in the
scariest times."
"It's the best time to be mushy," Shari said.
"Oh. Well, in that case I'll protect you Shari."
Shari backed away and punched Flint in the gut. "Man, what's
up with you, you weirdo?"
Flint held his stomach and winced in pain. "Just...trying
to...be helpful."
Pikachu fell on the ground laughing. "Pi-Pikachu Pika?" (So
Flint, how's your lovelife?)
Suddenly, they heard a voice. "Whaddya want?"
They looked up. It was Nurse Joy at the counter.
"I need my Pokemon healed," Flint said.
"What do you think we are? A Pokemon Center?"
"Aren't you?"
Joy thought a minute. "Oh yeah. Just haven't gotten any
business in a while."
Flint talked in a manly voice, "Well, Joy, you'll get a lot
of business now, because I'll keep coming and coming to you because
you are so beautiful."
"Uh...that's sweet and all, kid, but I think I'm too old for
you."
"Flint's even hittin' on the Nurse," laughed Ollie.
"Pi-Pika kachu," Pikachu laughed too. (And he got rejected
again!)
Why don't you talk to her?" Joy asked, pointing to Shari.
"Already did. Got a punch in the stomach."
Joy looked up at the ceiling, dreamily. "Oh, that's love.
Only the first stage, but that's love."
Flint and Shari looked at each other and said at the same
time, "Me love her (him)? That's disgusting!"
"Why haven't you gotten a lot of business, Joy?" Jackie
asked. "I mean, I would've thought that you'd get a lot of business
from people who need their Pokemon healed after fighting Sabrina and
coming here to get ghost Pokemon."
"Yeah, well, they just come by here, see the place, get
freaked out, then leave," Joy said as she took Flint's Pokemon.
After a while, she brought them back. "I just hope that you
can even find a ghost Pokemon in the Pokemon Tower."
"Not me," Shari said.
"Same here," agreed Jackie.
"Ditto," said Ollie.
"Why wouldn't I find any ghost Pokemon at a Pokemon
gravesite?" asked Flint.
"Well," started Joy, "the ghosts haven't come out for a very
long time. People say its because Haunter came back from Sabrina's
gym sad because she became evil again, and it just got them all down,
so they're just not in the mood to haunt anyone."
Ollie, Jackie and Shari all sighed a sigh of relieve.
"I think I can do it!" Flint yelled. "I believe that I will
find a ghost Pokemon, so that I can beat Sabrina, because I'm going
to have the same destiny as my father, the greatest Pokemon Master
ever! Ash Ketchum!"
"Calm down, Flint," Ollie said. "You're too hyper."
"Ash Ketchum is your father?" asked Joy.
"Yes," Flint said.
"Wow! Well, I'm sure you'll be as good a trainer as your
father. You go and catch that ghost!"
"Thanks!" Flint said as him and the others walked out the
door, heading towards the Pokemon Tower.
