The evening was approaching, so Ollie said that they should stop
for
the day and build camp.
After they took out their sleeping bags, Ollie started building
a fire.
"Hey, Flint," he said. "Can you help me with the fire?"
Flint was just staring at the ground, looking sad.
"Flint? Flint!!"
Flint looked up. "Huh?"
"What the matter? You taking something?"
"No, I'm just depressed because I haven't caught a new Pokemon
in a
long time."
"Well, let's go look for some."
"Oh, okay. Thanks. C'mon Pikachu."
"Pika! Pikachu!" Pikachu said. (Okay! Let's do it!)
Flint, Ollie and Pikachu got up and starting walking away from
the
campsite.
"Guys, wait," called Jackie.
"What?" Ollie asked.
"Just...be careful," she said with a concerned look on her face.
"Yeah, remember what happened last time?" Shari said.
"Don't worry, we won't fall in any rivers," Flint said as he
winked at
Jackie.
"That's not funny!" she exclaimed after they left.
Jackie and Shari sat on some logs in front of the wood that was
supposed to be made for a fire.
"Y'know what, Jackie?" Shari said. "I really think Ollie likes
you."
"Well, I like him too."
"No, I mean he like likes you."
"What? Nah, you just thinking crap."
"No, I'm serious."
"What makes you think that?"
"Think about it. He jumped in a freezing river to save your life."
"He's just being a friend and he's brave. I'm sure he would've
done
that for anybody else."
"I don't know, Jackie..."
About twenty minutes later, Flint and Ollie were still searching
for
Pokemon.
"Man, this sucks," complained Flint. "We haven't found anything
yet."
"Don't worry. You'll find something," encouraged Ollie.
Just then, a Pokemon jumped out from the bushes.
"Bulbasaur!" it yelled.
"Wow! It's a Bulbasaur!" Flint exclaimed.
"What'd I tell you?" Ollie said.
Flint took out his Pokedex: "Bulbasaur. A seed was planted on
its back
at birth. It uses attacks like vine whip and razor leaf on its
opponents. But researchers are unsure whether to classify this Pokemon
as a plant or animal."
"Well, I don't care what you are Bulbasaur! I'm gonna catch you!"
Flint
yelled.
It started jumping around and yelled again, "Bulbasaur!"
"I think it's challenging you, Flint," said Ollie.
"A fight it wants huh? Well, you'll get one, Bulbasaur!" Flint
took out
a Pokeball and threw it. "Zubat, I choose you!"
A red beam of light shot out from the Pokeball and Zubat flew
out.
"Zubat, leech life!"
Zubat flew towards Bulbasaur and bit it, sucking the life out
of it.
Bulbasaur shot out vines from its back and hit Zubat off of him and
onto
the ground. Then it used its razor leaf attack and cut Zubat over and
over again. Zubat screeched in pain.
"Zubat! Good job! You weakened it a little! Return!" Flint took
out
another Pokeball. "Go, Clefairy!"
A red beam shot out of that Pokeball and Clefairy came out.
"Clefairy!" it said.
"Clefairy, pound!"
Clefairy charged towards Bulbasaur and hit it down.
"Good job, Clefairy!" Flint put some ear plugs on his ears, then
on
Pikachus. "Now use Sing!"
Clefairy started to sing. Bulbasaur was getting woozy. Clefairy
kept
singing. Bulbasaur closed its eyes and fell over.
"Good! Bulbasaur's out!" Flint took out an empty Pokeball and
threw it.
"Pokeball, go!"
The Pokeball hit Bulbasaur and opened, sucking Bulbasaur in with
a red
beam of light. The Pokeball shook a little bit, then stopped.
"Alright! I got Bulbasaur!" Flint yelled as he picked up the
Pokeball
containing his new Bulbasaur. "Great work, Clefairy! Return!"
He held out another Pokeball and Clefairy was sucked back in.
"Well," said Flint. "My day is a lot better now."
"Nice job," Ollie said.
"Pika-pika!" exclaimed Pikachu. (You did good!)
"Thanks, guys. Guess we should head back, huh?" Flint said as
he walked
away, and Ollie and Pikachu followed.
That night, everybody was asleep except for Jackie. She was sitting
and
staring at the stars and thinking about Ollie and what Shari said.
"Hey Jackie, are you still awake?" Ollie said as he got up.
Jackie looked over. "Yeah, I couldn't sleep."
"Oh."
"I just wanted to say thanks again for rescuing me."
"No prob."
"No, I'm serious. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you."
"Well, I'm sure Shari or Flint would've done the same."
"Well then how come they didn't jump in?"
"I don't know. I guess they were just waiting for the right time."
Jackie thought about that. "Hmmm..."
They didn't talk for a while, but then Ollie broke the silence.
"So,
how did it happen?"
Jackie looked at Ollie. "How did what happen?"
"How'd you fall in the river?"
"Well, me and Shari were looking around for a while for a Squirtle,
finally Shari saw a little pack of them by the river. There was also
a
Wartortle. I guess he was the leader or something. Anyway, Shari ran
out
of our hiding spot trying to get it, but I ran after her trying to
make
her stop, and wait for the right moment to attack. In all the confusion,
the Squirtles and Wartortle started shooting a bunch of water at us,
and
the force of it hit me so hard, I just fell in the river."
"Then all the Squirtles ran away?"
"Yeah."
"And Shari failed?"
Jackie nodded. "She'll get one soon. Now I have a question for
you."
"Shoot."
"Why did you do it? Why did you just jump in?"
"I don't know. It was just sort of a big blur. I just had my
mind set
on one thing, and that was getting to you."
Jackie started blushing a little, hoping that the dark would
cover it.
"I wasn't thinking about anything, all I had were flashbacks
of the
first time we met and everything, then I thought about what would've
happened if you would've died, and I didn't wanna go through my entire
life knowing I could have saved your life. I thought all that in about
5
seconds, then I just jumped in."
A tear rolled down Jackie's eye. Then all of a sudden, she started
to
bawl and hugged Ollie, crying on his shoulder.
Ollie didn't know what to do. "Um...it'll be okay," he would
say as he
patted Jackie's back. "Uh...Shari...are you awake? It's alright Jackie."
All the crying woke up Flint and Shari. They both got up from
their
sleeping bags and ran over to Ollie and Jackie.
"Hey, what's going on?" Flint asked.
"What's wrong with Jackie?" said Shari, puzzled.
"Oh, um nothing. Here..." Ollie gave Jackie to Shari, and then
she
cried on Shari's shoulder.
"It's gonna be okay, Jackie," Shari said.
"What happened?" asked Flint.
"Well, we both couldn't sleep, so we started talking, and all
of a
sudden, Jackie starts crying," said Ollie, confused.
"I'll see what's wrong with her, guys," said Shari as her and
Jackie
walked off.
"Pika-Pikachu? Pi-Pi?" asked Pikachu as he woke up and walked
up to
Flint and Ollie. (What's going on? Why's everyone awake?)
"I wonder what could be the problem?" said Ollie.
"Pikachu ka-Pika?" (The problem with who?)
"I don't know. Did you talk to her about the river, Ollie?" asked
Flint.
"Yeah, but..."
"Chu Pika?! Ka Pikachu?!" yelled Pikachu. (Who are you talking
about?!
What's going on?!)
"She's probably still all emotional about it," explained Flint.
"She
almost died, you know."
"I guess that's it."
Now Pikachu was really mad. "PIKACHU!!" (TELL ME!!)
He thundershocked them both.
"AHHH!!!" they both screamed.
After he stopped, he yelled, "Pika ka Pikachu?!" (Now what's
going
on?!)
"Jackie...was...crying..." Flint managed to cough out.
"She's still...emotional about...the...river..." Ollie said as
he
coughed up smoke.
"Chu," said Pikachu, satisfied. (Oh.)
Jackie was still sniffling a little bit, but managed to calm
down.
"You were right! I do like him!" she yelled out.
"I was, was I?" Shari said with a little giggle.
"I'd even go so far as to say I love him!"
"Woah! Back the love truck up! Aren't you going a little too
far?"
"No!" then she looked up at the sky and yelled out, "I love you,
Ollie!"
"Geez, girl! Are you crazy?" she said as she tried to quiet Jackie
down. "I thought you said that you weren't the right person for Ollie!"
"Well, that was a long time ago."
"Try two weeks."
"Did you hear that?" asked Flint. "I think that was Jackie!"
"Did she just say she loved me?!" Ollie exclaimed.
"Yeah."
"Holy Mary, mother of God!"
"You got that right."
"How old are we, anyway?"
"We're thirteen.*"
"That's old enough to love," then he yelled out, "I love you
too,
Jackie!!"
"Did you hear him, Shari? He loves me too! Let's go!" she exclaimed
as
she ran towards the campsite. "I'm coming, Ollie!"
What she didn't know was that Ollie was running towards her too.
They
were running so fast and it was so dark that they didn't know what
they
were doing, and they ran right into each other, both knocking the other
out.
Flint, Pikachu and Shari came running up.
"There out cold," Shari said.
"Dang, they just confessed their love for each other and they're
already sleeping together," Flint said with a laugh.
Shari hit him in the arm. "Shut up. Let's get them back to the
site."
They picked up the unconsious love birds and carried them back
to the
campsite.
"Pika-Pika," Pikachu said with a yawn. (I've had enough of this
night.
I'm going to back to bed.)
"You said it," Flint agreed.
So they put Jackie and Ollie in their sleeping bags (not both
of them
in the same one) then they got in their own sleeping bags and went
back
to sleep.
*The government had to raise the Pokemon Trainer's ages because there
were lots of ten year old trainers that couldn't handle the journey
and
being away from home so long, and some even died because of all the
dangers.
