Pokemon: the Next Generation
           Chapter 14

The four friends (and Pikachu) walked into a field, but Jackie and
Shari looked back sadly and sighed.
"Man, I wish we could've gone on the cruise," moaned Jackie.
"Yeah. That would be the greatest," Shari said.
"Well, we didn't have the money to do that," Flint explained.
"And even if we did," started Ollie, "we couldn't go anyway because we
still have a long journey ahead of us and we shouldn't waste our time on
boats."
"Geez. Duty before anything, right?" Jackie said.
"I can see you'll make a good doctor," Shari commented. Then she
whispered to Jackie and Pikachu, "And a boring one, too."
Pikachu and Jackie started to laugh quietly.
Ollie turned around and looked at them. "What was that?"
"Huh? Oh, uh...nothing," Jackie said, smiling.
"Hey Pikachu," Ollie said. "I'll give you a toy if you tell me what
they said."
"Pika-Pi Pikachu," Pikachu said. (I like ketchup.)
Flint looked back, wideyed. "You like ketchup?"
 "Pi-Pika?" (Is that bad?)
"No. It's just that my dad has a Pikachu and he says he's one of the
only Pikachus in the world that likes ketchup, and that with Pikachus,
if one Pikachu were to like something, then their offspring would like
that same thing."
"Pikachu Pika," Pikachu joked. (Maybe we're related)
Ollie changed the subject and turned to Jackie. "C'mon! You wanna have
a Pokemon match to see who's who around here?!" Ollie challenged.
 "Bring it!" Jackie yelled back.
"Guys! Stop!" Shari yelled, trying to break up the fight.
"Right," Flint agreed. "We don't want to risk hurting our Pokemon, and
then using our potions for them just because of a fight behind two
buddies. We need them for the real stuff."
Jackie and Ollie looked at Flint and Shari, wideyed.
"Wow!" Ollie exclaimed. "You guys actually agreed on something."
"What?" Flint and Shari said at the same time.
"Fine then!" said Shari. "Have a battle."
"I completely disagree," Flint said. "No battles between any of us."
"What about a fist fight?" Ollie asked.
"You'd hit a girl?" Jackie said. "Anyway, I could beat the crap out of
you anyday!"
"You wanna see to make sure that's true?"
A voice came out of nowhere. "I hate to break up your little party, but
anyone wanna challenge me to a Pokemon match?"
The group looked over and saw a short kid leaning on a tree.
"You wanna challenge us?" asked Ollie, not intimidated. "But, you're
just a little kid. You think you can beat me?"
"Huh? I'm ten! I'm just short for my age," the kid explained.
 "Okay. What's your name?"
 "Freddy."
"Well, Freddy, get ready to lose!"
"You're confident. Too confident. That's your weakness."
"Big words coming from a kid so small. Well, we'll see! By the way, my
name's Ollie," Ollie said as he took out a Pokeball. "Weedle, go!"
A red beam of light came from his Pokeball and Weedle came out.
"You can make introductions later! Go, Dendron*!" he yelled as he threw
his Pokeball and a tree-like Pokemon came out.
 "What's that?" Flint asked.
He took out his Pokedex: "Dendron, a grass Pokemon. It greatly
resembles a tree and will use attacks like vine whip and drain on its
opponents."
"We'll each use three Pokemon!" Ollie yelled. "Weedle, poison sting!"
Weedle held up the horn on its head and dove at Dendron.
"Look out, Dendron!" Freddy yelled. Dendron dodged out of the way just
in time. "Dendron, vine whip!"
Dendron held out its branches and whipped Weedle with them, hitting him
down.
"Weedle! Are you okay?" Ollie asked.
 Weedle nodded.
"Dendron, whip him again!" yelled Freddy.
 "Dodge it, Weedle!"
Weedle made it out of the way just in time. "Okay, Weedle! String
shot!"
Weedle shot out a stringy substance and winded them around Dendron's
legs, making them unable to move.
"Dendron, since you can't move your legs, use your branches! Mega
Punch!"
Dendron started punching at Weedle, but Weedle dodged every one.
"Okay, Weedle! Now use Poison Sting!" Ollie ordered.
Weedle crawled behind Dendron quickly and lunged its horn into him, and
Dendron yelled out in pain and fell down.
"Dendron, return!" Freddy yelled as he held out his Pokeball and
Dendron went back in. He threw out another Pokeball. "Go, Squirtle!"
"Alright! Go, Geodude!" Ollie said as he threw out his Pokeball and
Geodude came out.
"Are you crazy, Ollie!?" Flint exclaimed. "Rock Pokemon are weakened by
water!"
"I know what I'm doing!" Ollie replied. "If Geodude is experienced
enough, he can beat Squirtle and evolve!"
"You really wanna get to be good at Rock Pokemon training, huh?"
Shari brightened up. "It's a water Pokemon! Where did you find that
Squirtle, Freddy?"
Freddy turned around and pointed. "I just got it over through that
field there. There were quite a few, but I got lucky. Maybe you will
too."
"Okay! I'm gonna go get one! C'mon, Jackie!" she said happily as she
started heading in the direction where Freddy pointed.
"Alright, I'm coming," Jackie replied as she followed.
 "We'll be back soon!"
And they headed off through the bushes.
"Ka Pikachu?" Pikachu asked, concerned. (You think they'll be okay?)
"Yeah," Flint replied. "They can take care of themselves."
"Okay! Let's get back to the match!" Ollie yelled to Freddy.
 "Gladly!" Freddy replied.
Ollie whispered to Geodude, "Now be very careful. This is a water
pokemon, but I have faith in you. You can do it, bud."
"Geo-geodude!" Geodude replied as it nodded.
"Pika-Pikachu," Pikachu said. (He should've used his Pikachu and he
can't lose.)
"Nah, I think he might know what he's doing," Flint said.
 "Geodude, tackle!" Ollie yelled.
 Geodude charged towards Squirtle.
 "Squirtle, water gun!" Freddy ordered.
Squirtle shot out water from its mouth.
"Look out, Geodude! Dodge the water!"
Geodude got out of the way of the water just in time, but when the
water went past him, it hit Pikachu.
"Pi-*gurgle gurgle*!" Pikachu yelled as water flew in his mouth.
"Ha! Ha! Pikachu! You're all wet!" Flint taunted.
 Pikachu looked at him angry.
"Uh-oh," Flint mumbled when he realized his mistake.
"PIKACHU!!" Pikachu yelled as he electrocuted Flint.
 "AHHHH!!!" Flint screamed.
After Pikachu stopped, he laughed and said, "Pi-Pika chu." (That'll
teach you to mess with me, buddy boy.)
Flint coughed out some smoke and weezed out, "It'll never happen again,
sir."
Anyway, back to the fight. Geodude was getting his butt kicked.
 "Squirtle, bubblebeam!" Freddy yelled.
Squirtle shot out a beam of...uh, bubbles and hit the already weakened
Geodude.
 "Geodude!" Ollie yelled.
"You better call him back!" Flint warned.
Ollie sighed and took out his Pokeball. "Geodude, return." He took out
another Pokeball. "Tommy, go!"
A red beam of light shot out from his Pokeball and his Pikachu, Tommy,
came out.
 "Okay!" Freddy yelled. "Pokeball, go!"
He threw his Pokeball, called back Squrtle and a Pikachu came out of
his Pokeball.
Flint was confused and looked at the three Pikachus. "That's um...a lot
of Pikachus."
 "Okay, Tommy! Thundershock!" Ollie ordered.
Tommy's cheeks started to shoot out a little electricity and he shot
his electricity towards the other Pikachu and hit it, but it didn't
budge.
 "What?!" Ollie exclaimed.
"My Pikachu is at a very high level," Freddy bragged. "You should train
yours harder. Now, Pikaman (that was its nickname) use your quick
attack!"
Pikaman ran around and around Tommy until it got dizzy, then it
attacked, knocking Tommy down.
 "Okay, Pikaman! Now use thunderwave!"
Pikaman's cheeks started to get little lightning bolts around them,
then he hit Tommy with his thundershock.
 "PIKACHU!!" Tommy yelled in pain.
"Tommy!" Ollie exclaimed. "Are you gonna be okay?"
 "Pika-pika," Tommy said. (I don't know.)
 "Now, Pikaman! Do thunderbolt!"
Pikaman's cheeks started to get even more electricity around them, and
he shot the electricity towards Tommy.
"NO!!!" Ollie screamed as he tried to run in front of Tommy.
 But it was too late.
"PIKACHU!! PIKA!!" Tommy screamed in pain again.
"Pikachu Pika-Pi!" Pikachu yelled. (Bad form, Pikaman!)
Ollie ran to Tommy's side. "Are you okay?" he asked.
"Pi-pika," Tommy managed to cough out. (I don't think so.)
Ollie reached in his bag and pulled out some medicine. "Here. This
should help."
He gave it to Tommy, then he took out his Pokeball and sighed. "Now
rest. You should be fine in a few days." And the Pokeball sucked Tommy
back in.
"You should make your Pikachu train harder," Freddy said. "It's
obviously not strong now."
Ollie glared at Freddy. "If you don't shut your mouth right now, I'll
beat the crap out of you. You know I will, too."
 That made Freddy leave.
"Are you gonna be alright?" Flint asked Ollie.
 "Yeah, I guess."
"Don't worry. You'll get him next time. But for now, I guess we should
go find the girls."
So they walked in the direction that they saw the girls leave.
"Don't you think they would've come back by now?" Flint asked.
Ollie just looked at the sky, obviously still angry about the battle.
"Maybe we should call for them." So Flint started calling for them.
"Jackie! Shari! Where are you?"
 "Pika! Pika!" Pikachu called.
After about 15 minutes, Ollie started to get concerned too and started
calling.
 SPLASH!!!
 "What was that?!" Flint asked.
"It sounded like someone fell in water!" Ollie replied.
They ran in the direction that they heard the river and saw Shari
running along the bank, downstream.
 "There's Shari!" Flint exclaimed.
"Where's Jackie?!" Ollie asked, now very concerned.
Shari heard their voices and turned around. "Guys!" she yelled. "Jackie
fell in the river!"
 "WHAT?!" they both yelled.
Then Ollie saw Jackie in the river, trying to swim for her life.
 "Jackie!!" he yelled.
He ran along the bank, with Flint and Shari close behind. Suddenly, he
took off his coat and jumped in!
"Ollie!" Flint and Shari yelled. "What are you doing?!"
 "Pika!" Pikachu screamed.
Ollie swam along trying to stay above the water, but also trying to get
to Jackie as quickly as he could. He finally got to her, but by the time
he did, she was unconcious. He floated along quickly, trying to swim
upstream, but also trying to keep Jackie's head above the water.
Flint found a big branch that hung above the water and ran on it,
planning to grab Ollie when he went by.
"Ollie!" he yelled as loudly as he could.
Ollie saw him and started to swim in the direction of Flint.
"Grab ahold of me!" Flint yelled as he extended his arm.
Shari and Pikachu grabbed onto the back of his shirt, so that he
wouldn't fall in with them.
Ollie reached out for Flint's arm and got it.
"Okay, Shari, Pikachu!" Flint yelled. "Pull as hard as you can!"
Shari and Flint both pulled, and finally got Ollie and Jackie on shore.
Ollie layed Jackie down. "She's unconsious!"
"Does anyone know CPR?" Shari asked.
"I kind of do," Ollie said.
So he blew in her mouth and pushed her chest to get her to breathe.
"One, two, three, four!" he would say as he pushed on her chest. Then
he would take a breath in her mouth.
"C'mon, Jackie, don't bail out on us now," Shari said as she started to
cry.
"Yeah, Jackie. You gotta live," said Flint.
"Pika-Pikachu," Pikachu said. (Please don't leave us.)
Finally, Ollie was successful and Jackie coughed up water and sat up.
"You're alive!" they all said as they hugged her.
"Okay guys. Enough sentimental stuff," she said.
"We thought you were a goner!" Shari exclaimed.
"Yeah," Flint said. "Thanks to Ollie, you're still breathing."
She looked at Ollie and started to get teary eyed. "You saved me? Thank
you very much."
 Then she hugged him.
"Ohhhh," Flint and Shari joked. "It's a Kodak moment."
So later, they all got up and continued their journey towards Saffron
City.
