Episode IX- Underground Melee
by WETWEB
Moonlight burst through the tunnel as two shadows dashed past
it. Derrick's Team Rocket uniform blazed in the moonlight's glare as he
slid down a hill on the inside of Mount Moon. Ron made the same moves,
chasing his arch-rival. Derrick stopped in the shadows, hoping that Ron
would pass him up. Ron went past, and Derrick began to climb back up the
incline. Ron stood, looking and panting, trying to find his target. "Oh,
man! I need some help! Sandshrew, go!" The white electricity lit up the
cave as the armadillo creature got up out of its curling position. "Sandshrew,
Dig! Go find some help!" "Shrew! Shandshrew!!" The Pokemon jumped up and
hit the ground burrowing.
As the sound of his digging Pokemon faded, Ron thought he heard
another noise. "Ahhhhh!!! Ow! Ow!" Derrick stopped his fall grabbing onto
a nearby rock and swinging his leg onto the ledge.
Ron spun around, and saw a flash of white cloth in the moonlight.
"Derrick! Stop right there and come down here!!" He started running up
the slope.
Derrick scowled. "In your dreams, kid!" Then he saw his chance.
"Yeah! Sure, I'll come down!" He dove down the slope towards Ron, feet
in a kicking position.
The kick rammed into Ron head on, and sent him flying down the
incline. "Ahhhhhh!!!!" He slammed into the ground, sending rocks and debris
in every direction. "Oooofff!!"
Derrick skidded to a stop near Ron, who had the breath knocked
out of him. He waved his finger in the darkness. "You tried to play with
the big boys, kid." Derrick picked Ron up by the collar, and gave him another
toss. "But the game's over." Derrick kicked Ron where he had fallen. "And
you lost!" Ron tried to get his breath back, and Derrick began to head
to the exit from the cave. He looked back at Ron, struggling to get up.
"You're still trying to fight me? Give it up! The battle's over!!"
Ron slowly rose to his feet, still trying to catch his breath,
and put his hand to his belt. "As long... as I... can stand... and lift...
my fists,... the battle is... never over." He plucked a Pokeball from his
belt. "Geodude, go!!" The rockball with arms growled at Derrick.
Derrick was intrigued. "Very well. If that's the way you want
it, kid! Graveler, go!!" The evolved form of Ron's Geodude waved its four
arms around. "Graveler, Rock Throw!!" The Graveler launched its hands at
the Geodude, who rolled out of the way.
Ron was ready for action now. "Alright, Geodude, show him a real
Rock Throw!!" The Geodude curled its arms around itself and slammed into
the Graveler three times, knocking it backwards each time.
Derrick stomped his foot. "Stop that! Graveler! Explosion!!"
The Graveler began to glow with a red light.
Ron saw what was coming. "Geodude, watch out!!" The Graveler
blasted rocks in every direction, even shoving both Derrick and Ron to
the floor. When the explosions ceased, he jumped to his feet. "Geodude!!"
He ran to his wounded Pokemon, who was in bad shape. "Geodude, return!!!"
He snapped up another Pokeball. "Onix, Go!!!" The huge rock serpent encircled
the two trainers, roaring.
Derrick smiled cruelly. "Time for a rematch! Rhydon! Go!!!" The
rhinocerous-like Pokemon raised on it hind legs, brandishing the sharp
spike on the tip of it's nose. "Rhydon, Stomp!!"
The Rhydon raised a foot into the air and slammed it down, shaking
the entire cave. Slowly, the sound echoed off. Ron waited for something
to happen, but nothing did. He shrugged. "That was useless." Derrick
smiled and shook his head. He pointed up. Suddenly, Ron heard a cracking
noise as the stalactites on the ceiling began to break and fall. "Onix!"
The huge snaked curled up around its owner, protecting him from the falling
spikes. Soon the crashes stopped, and the Onix uncurled Ron.
Derrick had been safe where he was standing, but his Rhydon had
run spike-first into a wall, getting the horn caught. "Rhydon! Don! Don!
Don!" It kept trying to pull out, but the horn was in too deeply. Derrick
had no choice. "Rhydon, return!" The Pokemon was aborbed in the blast of
red light. "All right, I surrender! Just put that rock-snake away!"
Ron called his Onix back, and Derrick walked over to him, head
down. He stood silent in front of Ron for a second, and then, in one swift
movement, scooped the rest of the Pokeballs off of Ron's belt and tossed
them into the darkness. Ron dove after them. "Hey!!" He got up and looked
around. Derrrick had run!
Derrick ran down the corridors in the cave, disregarding the
moonlight coming through the cracks in the roof. He dashed past open rooms,
and dove down slopes. He looked behind him, and Ron was trying his hardest
to keep up. Derrick slid to the side into the shadow as he rounded a corner,
and stuck his foot out to trip Ron. Ron went skidding across the floor,
but he was up and facing his enemy in the next moment. Ron dashed over
to the door, not wanting his adversary to get out that way. Derrick looked
around, just realizing that the room he was in had only one door, and Ron
was standing in front of it. Derrick tried to charge him, but Ron lowed
his head and rammed him directly in the stomach, sending him flying backwards.
Ron got back in front of the door with a glare. "Just you try that again!"
Derrick got up from where he had fallen, and his hand slid into
his pocket, and he drew a gun. "Oh, believe me, I will, but this time,
you'll move." Ron looked down the barrel of the gun. "Now, get out of my
way." Ron put his hands into the air and started to back a little to the
right of the door. The two slowly edged around each other as Derrick started
to get closer to the door. Suddenly, Ron looked up, as if startled by something.
Derrick did the same, and in that second, Ron charged into Derrick, sending
the gun flying. It went off as it hit the ground, echoing in the caves.
The two wrestled for a second, and Derrick threw Ron against the wall,
once again knocking the breath out of him. Derrick rushed over to follow
up on his attack, but Ron used the wall to push himself into the running
Derrick, flipping him over and slamming him on the ground. Ron spun around
as his enemy jumped to his feet and swung his fists, connecting with Ron's
face and sending him down to the floor, almost unconscious. Derrick began
to walk over to the door, which was bright in the moonlight. He turned
to Ron, who was laying on the floor, facing his enemy, but lacking the
strength to get up. "Now," said Derrick, "the battle is over."
Ron put his hands down to the earth to try again to get up, and
he saw something odd. The pebbles next to his hand started to jump around,
and Ron began to hear a rumbling sound. He looked up at Derrick, who was
noticing the same things. Derrick looked around, trying to find what was
making the noise. Ron put his hands over his head and rolled against one
of the walls. "Derrick, watch out!! It's an earthquake!!!" Suddenly,
the ground seemed to split as huge amounts of Sandshrew poured into the
room, encircling Derrick. " Ron sat up. "Sandshrew!!"
Derrick looked around in the moonlight at the hundreds of faces
of the Sandshrew. They weren't about to let him go. "Awwww, man!! All right!
All right already!!" The army of Sandshrew swarmed around their target
lifting him up. "I surrender!!"
One Sandshrew came over to Ron. "Shrew! Sandshrew!! Shrew!" Ron
put his hand on its head. "Good job, Sandshrew! I knew I could count on
you! Come on!" The Sandshrew signaled to follow Ron, and they lead Derrick
out of the cave, up to the blazing lights of the police cars.
