Episode I- Prologue
Professor Oak was studying the sun, trying to tell how long he
had been out searching. It was getting late, and he had better start back
for Pallet. He brushed past some leaves from his face, and moved away from
the bushes. He had been sure that he'd find something today. "Seven hours
out here," he mused, "and not any Pokemon for miles. Oh, well. Maybe I'll
find something tomorrow." He started gathering his supplies, and stopped
short at a noise. All fell silent again. He sighed, and kept going. Another,
louder noise grabbed his attention. It seemed to be coming from a little
past that bush over there. He cautiously stepped over to the bush, and
drew back a few leaves. He could see something on the adjacent hilltop,
but he wasn't sure. He pulled back a few more, and gasped at the sight.
"Oh, my...."
Back at the lab in Pallet, David, Tony, and Ron were all working
on cleaning up the lab after a battle. David leaned against his mop. "Remind
me never to pit a Koffing against another Koffing again."
Tony continued to scrub at the surrounding tables, covered in
the muck from the Koffings. "Especially since we're still in the research
lab. Ron, you should have known they would make a mess. We could have taken
this outside, and then we wouldn't be in a rush to clean this all up before
the Prof gets back!"
Little Ron was working on the windows. "Yeah, well, David should
have never challenged me!"
David came back. "I challenged you? Who was the one who was telling
us all that he could win any match that we put in front of him? And, as
I recall, I beat you!"
"In your dreams, buddy!"
Tony got inbetween the two, even though they were across the
room from each other. "Stop it! Now come on, we have to finish this before
Oak gets back and finds out that we've been battling all of this time!!"
Ron scrubbed at the window. He saw a flashlight's glare in the
distance on a hill. "Um, guys, I think we're just about out of time! Here
he comes!"
David and Tony ran over to the window. David grabbed his mop
and started moving faster with it. "Don't panic, guys! Let's just hurry
it up!" David slid across the floor, mopping away. Almost finished with
the floor. Tony finished off the tables, and ran around, wiping off all
of the counters. Ron scrubbed the window clean, and moved on to the last
one. "Come on, guys! Hurry!" Oak was coming up on the last hill, now.
Ron slid down the last window, and threw his rags into the work
closet. He held the door open while Tony lauched the filthy towel he was
using across the room to the basket. Perfect shot. Oak was on the sidewalk
in front of the lab. They could hear him whistling. David slid the mop
out of the last corner, stuffed the mop into the bucket, and skidded it
across the floor to Ron. Ron didn't even wait for it to get to the door.
As it came up to him, he gave it a shove with his foot, and knocked it
into the small closet. Ron shut the closet door, and the front door opened.
Oak walked in with a look of something between satisfaction, and utter
amazment. "You boys will not believe what I got tonight." He produced from
his pocket a small Pokeball, with his own label on the front. He tossed
it to David. "Read the label."
David looked at the writing, and then his face went blank. He
looked to Oak. "Are you sure about this?" Oak nodded. David turned the
ball around, to show his friends. The label read, "Encompass".
The three of them headed down to the lab early in the morning.
Each had all of their camping supplies with them, as well as all the Pokeballs
they could carry. David glanced at his watch and pulled out his portable
radio. "Time for the morning news."
As David turned the dial, the radio sparkled to life. A man's
voice came over the speaker. "Yesterday, a load of Pokeballs, enroute to
Lavender Town, was stolen by the notorious Team Rocket. This is the third
instance of a robbery like this within a month. Damages to surrounding
property during the fight between Team Rocket and the transporters is estimated
at over one hundred thousand dollars." A pause, and, "In other news regarding
Pokemon, Professor Oak of Pallet Town claims to have captured the rarest
of all Pokemon, Encompass. Before now, Encompass were thought to be legend,
and most of the facts about it were made up. Maybe now we will know more
about the Pokemon phenomenon of Encompass. He has already turned down five
offers to buy the Pokemon, going as high as one million dollars." The announcer
went on about weather, and David turned off the radio.
Tony whistled. "Wow. I just heard about this last night, and
already it's being broadcast around the world.
David smiled. "Yeah, news like that gets around fast. Up to a
million dollars. It's amazing what people will pay to get the Pokemon they
want."
Ron pulled out his Pokedex, a small handheld computer packed
with knowledge of Pokemon. "This isn't any ordinary Pokemon, though. Look
at this!"
The screen glowed, and audio came through. "Encompass is a small
Pokemon that proves that size doesn't matter. This Pokemon has never been
recorded on film, but once you see it, you are not likely to forget it.
It is a Psychic type Pokemon, and has an extremely strong effect. Its name
gives a nod toward its power. Unlike other Psychic Pokemon, the effect
of its hypnosis is permenant. Any unlucky Pokemon that falls prey to Encompass
will most likely never recover from the battle. Antidotes to Encompass
are not currently being worked on, though, with Professor Oak's finding,
they might have to be. Once a year, each Encompass is strong enough to
do its Encompass Command, which will take over the minds of all of the
Pokemon in a central area. This attack is only possible if that particular
Encompass has the Boulderbadge, Cascadebadge, Blazebadge, and Moon Stone.
If empowered by all of these objects, the Encompass will have the strength
to take the minds of all of the Pokemon on the globe. Even Pokemon that
are stored in Pokeballs will not be shielded from the effects of Encompass.
Research shows that the time at which the Encompass can do the Encompass
Command is at midnight, on the thirty-first of July."
David sighed. "Wow. That's one powerful little Pokemon."
Tony nodded. "If something like that ever got into the wrong
hands..."
Up ahead, Professor Oak was just coming out of the lab to meet
them. He was smiling from ear to ear, ready to go. "Good morning, boys!
Are you ready for our annual Pokemon camping trip?"
Ron smiled. "We sure are, Prof. Where are we headed this year?"
Oak pointed to the north. "I'll give you a clue. It's the biggest
landmark from Pewter City to Cerulean City."
David's eyes widened. "We're heading all the way up to Mount
Moon?"
Oak smiled. "We sure are! I can't wait to get out under the starry
sky! Who knows? Maybe we'll find more Pokemon!"
The four of them started out, heading northeast in order to pass
Viridian City. As the sun rose over their heads, Oak told them about Encomapass,
and how he had caught it.
"Unbelievable!" A hand pounded hard on a conference table in
anger. "I don't believe it. Oak couldn't have gotten it."
A lackey to the right of him started. "But, sir! It's all over
the news! Maybe he really did get it!"
"All of my life, I've searched for a Pokemon as powerful as that,
and an old fool like Oak found it!"
The person on the left of him started now. "We were thinking
that maybe a Pokemon like that would be very, shall we say, advancing to
our collections."
"I know that. I would do almost anything to get it." The man
sitting in the chair thought for a minute. "This meeting is over. As you
leave, tell Jean-Luc, Sarah, and Derrick to get in here."
A few minutes later, the three entered the room. Derrick was
the first to break the silence. "You called for us?"
The man didn't bother to turn his chair around, but spoke with
his back to them. "Undoubtedly, you have heard about Oak finding the Encompass."
Sarah nodded. "That seems to be what everyone is talking about."
The man continued, "You know, I was very impressed with your
heist of those Pokeballs yesterday. We found many Pokemon that will be
of some use."
Jean-Luc smirked. "Well, I'm glad you enjoy our work."
"But your work isn't done. I want you to go to Pallet Town, where
Oak is. Get that Pokemon."
Sarah asked, "But what if he isn't there? I've heard that he
just up and disappeared with some of the town boys today."
"Then you track him. Whatever needs to be done, do it. We have
to have that Pokemon by the thirty-first."
The three of them looked at each other, and then headed out of
the room, to a waiting car. They arrived in Pallet in the late evening.
At the lab, Derrick tried the door, and finding it locked, looked for the
direction that Oak had gone. "No tire marks. He left on foot," he studied
the path cut into the woods just around them, "over there. If they've had
all day to travel, we'll probably catch up to them by tomorrow evening."
The three of them started down the path as the moon was high in the sky.
"Growlithe, Fire Claw!" The small, tigerlike Pokemon heated up,
and slashed away at the Spearow with claws of flame. David watched as his
Growlithe pummeled the Spearow, hoping to add it to his collection. The
Spearow broke free of Growlithe, and took to the air. The Spearow watched
for a chance, and dove at Growlithe, talons extended. David watched as
Growlithe slid off to the side, catching the Spearow off guard. "Growlithe,
Rising Flame!" The small tiger crouched and shot into the air in a blaze
of flame, getting the Spearow full blast. The Spearow slammed to the ground,
almost in a faint. David whipped out a Pokeball and lauched it at the Spearow.
"Pokeball, go!!!" The ball hit the Spearow, and drew it in with a blast
of red electricity. David waited, making sure that the Spearow wasn't too
strong to escape the ball. The Growlithe padded over to the ball, picked
it up in its mouth, and headed over to David. David put out his hand, and
Growlithe plopped the Pokeball into it. "Good boy, Growlithe!! Good boy!"
David petted the Pokemon as it pushed up against him and almost purred.
The minature of a tiger walked along beside him as he went back to Oak,
Tony, and Ron. David picked Growlithe up, and put him over his shoulders.
Oak smiled. "Good training, David. Let's get a move on. We want
to be near Viridian Forest by nightfall. They gathered their things, and
headed north again.
Jean-Luc looked around the clearing. "They bedded here last night.
You see the fire kindling?"
Sarah studied the scene. "He's got three others with him. We
can take them. Let's just hope that Oak doesn't know how to control Encompass,
yet."
Derrick moved around the bushes. "They went on that way. Let's
hurry and try to catch up with them." They ran down the trail.
"Sandshrew, Roll Slam!" Ron's Sandshrew dashed at the Paras,
who slashed at him with a claw. The Sandshrew bounced off of the claw,
and slid around to the back of the Paras. The Paras was confused, and Sandshrew
whipped at him with his claws. The Paras flipped over, and sent a ground
shock through the ground. "Sandshrew, Dust Storm!" The Sandshrew sent a
huge cloud of dust towards the Paras. As Paras recovered, Sandshrew slammed
into him from the side, curled into a ball. The Paras was thrown a few
feet, where he lay still. Ron grabbed a Pokeball, and fired it at the Paras.
"Pokeball, go!!!" The ball flew through the air, hit the Paras, and pulled
it in with a burst of the red electricity. The Pokeball shook for a second,
but the Paras remained trapped. Sandshrew lay on the ground, exhausted.
Ron walked over to his Pokemon, and picked up the Pokeball beside him.
He picked up Sandshrew in his other arm, and held him as he went back over
to the rest of the group.
"Good job, Ron. Sandshrew has improved much since I last saw
him." Oak reached over to pet the armadillolike creature. They went back
on their way, talking about the fight.
Sarah looked at the ground at little way off of the path. There
was something different there. "Guys, look at this." She pointed to a charred
spot on the ground in a clearing. "There was a fight here. A Fire against
something." She walked over to the spot. "It's still warm. I think we're
getting close." The sun was beginning to set.
"Starmie, Star Slash!" Tony's starfishlike Pokemon shot through
the air, spinning its arms like blades. The Mankey it was fighting dodged
to the side, and punched at it. The Starmie took the hit, and rolled to
a stop, where it got back up on its legs. The Mankey launched itself at
Starmie, and bit onto one of its arms, making it squeal in pain. "Throw
him, Starmie!" The Starmie spun itself, shooting the Mankey into a tree.
He slid down the trunk, dazed, and leaned against the trunk. "Starmie,
Star Gush!" The jewel in the center of the Pokemon glowed, and then shot
a deluge of water onto the Mankey, slamming it against the tree again.
The water stopped, and the Mankey fell to the ground. Tony threw a Pokeball
at it. "Pokeball, go!!!" The ball hit the Mankey, and pulled it into itself
with a blast of red electricity. "Yes!!" Tony jogged over to the ball and
picked it up, then inspected the arm of Starmie that the Mankey bit.
Oak came over as Tony picked him up. "He'll be fine. The sun
is setting, so we had better find somewhere to put up for the night." They
looked for a clearing.
As the moon rose high over the campfire, the four travelers unpacked
their sleeping bags, and put them around the fire. Each of them put their
belts of Pokeballs right beside them, in case they would need them later.
As everyone was falling asleep, Ron laid looking at the stars. He thought,
"Sometimes, it's great to just look at the stars and just wonder." Where
had he read that? It didn't matter, he was getting tired. He closed his
eyes, and heard a noise. He looked around. Everyone was asleep. The noise
happened again. One of the bushes behind them was rustling. Suddenly, it
stopped. Ron was getting scared. "Uh, Tony? David?" He looked over, and
both of them were sound asleep in their sleeping bags, and so was Professor
Oak. The bush started moving again, and this time, Ron thought he heard
voices. "David! Tony! Get up!"
The two sat up sleepily just in time to see three shadowy forms
emerge from the bush. David rubbed his eyes. "Who are you, and what are
you doing trying to scare my friends like that?"
The three stood together. The form in the middle started. "Allow
us to introduce ourselves!"
"To protect the world from devastation, to unite all peoples
within our nation,"
The form on the left stepped into the light of the fire. "To
denounce the evils of truth and love, to extend our reach to the stars
above, Derrick!"
The form on the far right was next. "Jean-Luc!"
Then the one in the middle. "And I'm Sarah. Team Rocket!"
Jean-Luc continued, "Blast off at the speed of light!"
Derrick put his fist in the air, "Surrender now or prepare to
fight!"
Sarah put forward a hand with a Pokeball in it. "That's right!"
Tony wasn't sure, but he was almost certain he saw explosions go off behind
them. Nah. "The old one has a Pokemon we need desperatley. Give it to us
now, and no one will get hurt!"
Oak was just now waking up. "Huh? Oh, no! Team Rocket! You're
not getting Encompass!" He grabbed the belt with the Pokeballs on it.
Derrick pulled out a Pokeball of his own. "Then take your best
shot, old man!"
Oak ripped a Pokeball off of the belt and held it. "Very well.
Vulpix, go!!" He launched the ball at Derrick, which opened, and in a blast
of white light, released a six-tailed foxlike Pokemon.
Derrick looked at the creature as it waited for an adversary.
"Ha! You should have thought twice before fighting the all-time Ground
and Rock Type champion, old man!" He wound up, and fired the Pokeball at
the Vulpix. "Sandslash, go!!" The Pokeball opened to reveal a huge, spikebacked
version of Ron's Sandshrew. "Sandslash, Ground Pound!" The Sandslash reared
back, and slammed his paws to the ground, shaking the Vulpix off of its
feet.
"Vulpix, Flame Tail!!" The Vulpix's six tails glowed a firey
red, and it dashed around the Sandslash, burning it. Clouds of dust sprang
up as it ran, covering up the Pokemon. Oak realized that Vulpix could get
itself lost in the cloud, and then it would be easy pickings for the Sandslash,
who was very at home in the dust. "Vulpix, Fire Escape!" A blaze of flames
shot out of the dust cloud, leaving behind a very confused, very burned
Sandslash.
Derrick was mad, now. "Oooo, that's it!! Sandslash, Boulder Slam!!"
The huge Sandslash dove into a roll, and rammed into the Vulpix, knocking
it a few yards away.
Oak ran over to where it was. "Vulpix, come on! You can do it!
Blaze Bullet!!" The fire returned to the eyes of the Vulpix, who stared
at its enemy a short distance away. It reared back, and flew at the Sandslash
in a full blaze of fire, hoping to end it in this move.
Derrick saw it coming. "Sandslash!! Spike Guard!!" The Sandslash
rolled into its guarding position, extending its spines.
The Vulpix slammed right into the trap, and flew backwads, winded
and defeated. Oak ran over to it quickly. "Oh, no!!" He held out his Pokeball
towards the panting Pokemon. "Vulpix, return!!" The red electricity shot
out, drawing the Vulpix in with it.
Derrick pulled out his Pokeball, and returned Sandslash to his
belt. "So, old man? Ready to give up, or do you want to be punished again?"
Professor Oak pulled the ball marked "Encompass" off of the belt,
and held it in his hand. "You leave me no choice." He tossed the ball into
the air, towards the Team Rocket trio.
Jean-Luc was watching the ball come right to him. He put out
his hand to catch it. Suddenly, another hand between the two reached out
and grabbed it. Ron landed from his jump, and tossed the ball right back
to a dumbfounded Oak. He looked back at Derrick, angry. "Didn't your parents
ever teach you to respect your elders?"
Tony whipped out a Pokeball. "You should never pick on an old
man like that."
Derrick stepped back. "Now, come on. You don't want us to beat
you again, do you?."
David came up beside his two friends, also carrying a Pokeball.
"I think you're just scared."
Sarah pulled out a Pokeball of her own, as did Jean-Luc. "Scared?
Let's see what you're made of!!"
Ron launched his Pokeball at the trio. "Geodude, go!!" The white
electricity showed the rockball with arms.
Tony tossed his Pokeball into the air. "Wartortle, go!!" A huge
turtle-like creature came out of the blaze.
David was last. "Charlizard, go!!!" The dragon flew out of the
ball, and all three stood in the space between the teams.
Jean-Luc moved himself across from Tony. "A Water trainer, huh?
You're mine!!" His threw his Pokeball in the air. "Man-of-War, go!!" The
jellyfish flopped out of the Pokeball, and then lifted itself up on its
tentacles. "Man-of-War, Wave Sting!" The Pokemon threw its tentacles out
in a wave, slapping Wartortle back from it.
Tony stood behind his Pokemon. "Wartortle, Water Slam!!" The
tiny Pokemon jumped up and over the the Man-of-War and slammed it down
with a gush of water.
The jellyfish spun around to face its opponent. Jean-Luc moved
back to watch the fight better. "Man-of-War, Sting Swarm!!!" The Man-of-War
flew into the air and landed on the Wartortle, gripping the turtle in its
poisonous tentacles.
Tony jumped nearer to Jean-Luc. "Hey! Call him off of that attack!
It isn't fair!!" Jean-Luc only laughed. Tony looked back to his Wartortle,
and had an idea. "Wartortle, Water Pillar!!" The Pokemon wrenched free
of a few tentacles, and blasted a torrent of water out of the holes on
the back of its shell, shooting the Man-of-War high into the air along
with it. Jean-Luc watched as his Pokemon flew into the sky, and the Wartortle
stumbled to the side, already being affected by the poison.
Professor Oak was ready to do anything that he could to help.
"Wartortle, catch!!" He tossed an antidote to the Pokemon, which it instantly
gulped down, wrapper and all.
A few feet away, the Man-of-War slammed into the ground, hurt
and defeated. Jean-Luc rushed to its side. "Man-of-War!! Come on!! You
can still win!! Look, he's reeling from your poison!!" He looked over to
the Wartortle, who was fine now, thanks to the antidote. "Oh, man!! Man-of-War,
return!!!" He pulled out a Pokeball, and absorbed the jellyfish. He looked
back up to his rival. "You may have won against me, but I'll get you back!!
Just you wait!!"
Tony recalled his Wartortle, and gave it a candy. He looked right
back at Jean-Luc, repositioned his glasses, and smiled. "Yeah, sure. If
you'd have fought fairly in the first place, you might have won."
Ron moved over to his waiting Geodude. "Care to be beaten again,
or will you leave us alone?"
Derrick reared back with his Pokeball. "You don't even have a
chance, kid!! Grimer, go!!!" The ball opened and some slime poured out
onto the ground. The slime rose to resemble a mud puddle with arms. Ron's
Geodude was trying to decide how to attack it. "Grimer, Mud Blast!!" The
puddle lifted up, somehow hardened, and blasted into the Geodude.
The Geodude recovered, and got closer to its adversary. Ron was
right behind it. "Geodude, Avalanche Attack!!" Geodude spun its arms as
hard as they would go, and rushed at the Grimer. The Grimer didn't even
move. Geodude went right through the Grimer, and came out of the other
side, confused. Ron was suprised. "Uh, Geodude, Stone Uppercut!!" The Geodude
slammed a tunnel into the ground, and shot to the surface, breaking right
through the Grimer. It just pulled itself back together, leaving the Geodude
flying into the air.
Derrick laughed. "Don't you know that you can't hurt him unless
he's hardened? Enough playtime, kid!! Grimer, Sludge Smash!!" The puddle
threw itself at the Geodude, and slammed it into the ground, then dissolved
into the ground. It surfaced on the other side of the Geodude, waiting
for a command. "Grimer, Block Crush!!" It raised itself into the air, hardened,
and dropped onto the stunned Geodude. "Ha! Are you ready to call it quits,
or do you want to see how much pain your Geodude can be in?"
Geodude didn't move at all. Ron ran over to it. "Geodude, get
up!! I have a plan!! Just hang in there!" Slowly, the Geodude raised itself
up again, ready to fight.
Derrick smiled. "Not enough, huh? This will finish him!! Grimer,
Slab Crack!!" The Grimer hardened, and threw itself at Geodude.
Ron saw the chance. "Geodude, Rock Breaker!!" The Geodude spun
itself into a ball, and charged at the Grimer flying at it. They slammed
into each other, and the Grimer cracked all over its surface. It hit the
ground, and tried to heal, but it was too wounded.
Derrick stepped over to his wounded Pokemon. "I hate to lose,
kid. You'll pay for this!! Grimer, return!!"
After the Pokemon was back on his belt, Ron retrieved Geodude,
and gave him some food. "You Rocket people are all alike."
David stepped up to his Charlizard. "Two down, one to go! Will
you leave us yet, or do you want to lose to me, too?"
Sarah held on to the Pokeball. "Lose? I think not! Your Charlizard
is no match for me! Arcanine, go!!!" The ball flew through the air, and
revealed a larger and more grown version of David's Growlithe.
"Whoa! Is that what a Growlithe grows into?"
Sarah smiled. "It sure is. Arcanine, Flame Slash!" The tiger
dashed at the David's Charlizard in a blaze of claws and flame.
"Charlizard, Flying Flame!!" The dragon lifted off the ground,
and shot a blast of flame at the Arcanine, who was trying to reach its
opponent.
Sarah called to the Pokemon, "Arcanine, Rising Fire!!" The tigerlike
creature shot into the air, smoldering in flames.
David knew that move all too well. "Charlizard, Counter Slash!!"
The Charlizard waited for the Arcanine to come to it, and then flipped
the talons on its feet upward, kicking the Arcanine. Somehow, the Arcanine
grabbed onto Charlizard's feet as it kicked. "Charlizard, Air Smash!!"
The Charlizard sped toward the ground, pushing the Arcanine forward.
Sarah saw that they would hit the ground any second. "Arcanine,
Flame Slash!!" Aracanine's claws heated again, making the Charlizard drop
it. It landed on its feet, and waited for its rival to land.
David yelled to his friends, "Cover yourselves!! I'm going to
call for its special move!!" The Charlizard hovered near Arcanine, ready
for command. "Charlizard, Nuee Ardente!!" The dragon got close to the ground,
kicked up some dust, and blew fire, lighting the dust. The flapping of
its wings made the flaming dust fly around the entire camp site, as well
as smoke and other fumes. "Charlizard, Fire Talons!!" The dragon flew right
into the cloud, attacking the Arcanine.
Sarah couldn't see Arcanine, so she tried to recall him. "Arcanine,
return!!" The red electricity came back with Arcanine in tow. She turned
to her teammates. "Did it work?"
Jean-Luc nodded, and Derrick pointed to a bulging sack the two
of them were trying to carry. "Good," she exclaimed, "let's get out of
here!!"
David was trying to see his rival, but the clouds and smoke were
making it impossible. "Charlizard, clear this all out!!" The sound of beating
wings was heard, and as the smoke cleared, Charlizard stood alone on the
battlefield. "Huh? Where'd they go?"
Ron was looking around. "Guys, where's the Prof?" They all three
looked at each other.
Tony started getting his things ready to go. "We've got to go
after them. They can't have gone far!" A chopping noise startled them.
A helicopter with a red letter "R" flew right overhead. "Well, that's that."
David watched the helicopter dissappear on the morning sunrise.
"We can't let them get away with Professor Oak. If they've got him, they've
got Encompass."
Ron threw his backpack on. "Oh, man!! That means we have two
weeks to stop them from using Encompass. But how can we stop them?"
Tony thought for a second. "What were the four items that an
Encompass needs in order to do its Encompass Command?"
David pushed his memory. "Boulderbadge, Cascadebadge, Blazebadge,
and a Moon Stone. Oh, I see what you're saying!"
Ron said, "Yeah! We get the stuff before they do, and then they
can't use Encompass!!"
Tony nodded. "We have to get going. Each of us goes after his
own specialty, and then we meet back at Mount Moon for the Moon Stone.
All right?"
David exclaimed, "Let's go!!"
Ron said, "I'm ready!!"
The three Pokemon trainers headed off into the woods, each going
in a different direction. They're on a race against time to save all of
the Pokemon in the world.
This is one race they dare not lose.
