Place: Computer Game Training
Time: 09:00 hours
As the class was seated, chatter was covering the room. They were in a one of a kind class. They were training for world-wide tournaments for games. They all came from the same school, and wanted to be the champ in their chosen game. This class was for a game called Pokemon. A student name James was speaking to his friend to his left Kevin. They sat in the far back in class.
“You know what I heard about this teacher of ours here Kevin?”
“What?”
“Guy’s name Workman. People say he used be in the Military.”
“Yeah, well don’t believe everything you hear.”
Just then the room fell silent as a man with military clothing walked to the front desk.
“You were saying?” James teased.
“Listen up Scumbags.” The man said.
“I’m you teacher Mr. Workman. But YOU can call me your drill
instructor.”
The students looked at each other in confusion. This was not going to be as easy as they first thought.
“Pay attention Scumbags.” The Drill Instructor said. Everyone looked at him, save the one front and center who was asleep.
“Now then I will NOT give you every detail on kicking butt in pokemon. But I will teach you how to play the game, the use of different items, and give you a tactical read out on the eight gym leaders. Hey! I’m taking to you girl.” Workman said as he used a ruler to slap the desk of the sleeping student. He immediately woke up.
“First off, lets look at the controllers.” Workman then pulled down a sheet that had pictures of both a game boy and SNES controller.
“Staying in control is key to victory. You Dip Dunks probably read the manual to find out how to use the controls. But this is a just a recap. ‘A’ lets you talk to people, including gym leaders and trainers. It also lets you select attacks, pick up items, and choose things on the menu. ‘B’ just cancels actions. ‘Start’ brings up the menu screen and ‘Select’ lets you switch the placement of items and attacks.” Workman then pulled down another screen with the menu on it.
“This is your menu. The first thing on it is your Pokedex. This is not available until you receive it from Professor Oak. It gives brief information on pokemon you’ve caught, and pictures of pokemon you’ve seen. Pokemon is the second option. This is not available until you received one from Professor Oak. This gives you brief info on your pokemon status including maximum and current hit points or HP, current level, and it’s name. Then, if you have two or more, witch you Scumbags will have soon enough, you will have two options witch is Stats and Switch. Press ‘A’ on stats and you’ll get more detailed info including ID number, name of the original trainer, attacks and current PP, it’s type, and current attack, defense, special, and speed capabilities. Switch lets you put your pokemon in order. Remember, the pokemon on the top of the list is the first sent out. Remember this when planning an attack and you Dipdunks may stand a chance. Next on the menu is Item. Use ‘Select’ to arrange your items. Press ‘A’ to use an Item and your character, Who will be refereed to as Ash, will use it on a pokemon or use the item himself. Next is your name. Don’t get out your pencils, this is the name you chose for your character. This will show your money, badges, and the amount of time you played the game. Next is save. And nitwits, like the ones I’m looking at, knows to save often. You may find your butt beaten and wish to avoid it so you’ll have to use this often. Especially if you have a younger brother who turns your game off in mid-battle. Next is option. Best leave everything as it is here. Last is exit witch returns you to your game.” Workman then pulled down a chart.
“This is the chart of how well your type will be against the enemy. Use this to plot your plan.” The chart showed the following.

“Here’s how to use the chart Dipdunks. The numbers correspond
to a pokemon type.
1=normal
2=fire
3=water
4=electric
5=grass
6=ice
7=fighting
8=poison
9=ground
10=flying
11=psychic
12=bug
13=rock
14=ghost
15=dragon
E= excellent
G= good
P= poor
B= bad
Find your pokemon type on the left, your opponents on the top, and close
them on their common square. Follow this chart and you Scumbags may
save your pokemon from cuts and bruises. Next up is the Items.
Your Pokedex automatically identifies objects. But I will tell you
what they do.
Poke balls, Great balls and Ultra balls are used to catch pokemon.
Each having a different success rate. Safari balls are used in the
safari zone. A good walk-through will tell you about that.
The Master ball catches any pokemon 100% of the time. Use only on
a pokemon named Mewtwo. Check a walk-through to find out about him.
Fire, Water, Thunder, and Leaf stones evolve some pokemon. Find
those in Celadon City. The Moon stone also evolves some pokemon as
well.
Helix fossils, Dome fossils, and an old amber can resurrect extinct
pokemon.
Antidote cures poison, Burn heal eases burns, Ice heal thaws frozen
pokemon, and Paralyze heal heals paralyzed pokemon.
Potions, normal, super, or hyper, restores HP. Max Potion fully
restores HP. Full Restore heals all conditions and fully heals pokemon.
Revive and Max Revive brings back fainted pokemon.
The Xs, X attack, defend, speed, accuracy, and special, raises the
pokemon’s ability during battle.
Rare Candy, HP UP, Protein, Iron, Carbos, and Calcium increases abilities
permanently. Rare Candy is the one you want. It raises your
pokemon’s level by 1. When using it don’t just pick any pokemon.
I don’t want you Scumbags to work too hard. Instead, give it to the
pokemon that needs the most exp. Points for a new level. That will
make your life, as bad as it is, better. As for the others, use on
any pokemon you want. They’ll stay around don’t worry. All
those except the Candy you can find in Celadon City. PP UP raises
power points, But don’t expect to find it. I haven’t.
The bicycle is very expensive so don’t expect to buy one. Instead
find the Bike Voucher and trade it for a bike in Cerulean City. Where
do you get it? I’m not telling. But I will say it’s in Viridian
City. TMs are used to teach moves to pokemon. These can be
useful if used correctly. But don’t expect to teach a water pokemon
Fire Spin. TM’s are only used once. If you boot up a TM it
will take you to a stats screen. Then Where the level of the pokemon
was it will say ABLE or UNABLE. That pretty self explanatory ya Dipdunks.
Then, if you use it, the pokemon will learn it, unless it knows 4 moves,
in witch case you’ll have to erase one.
HM’s are the same thing, with one exception. They can be used over
and over. Other-wise there’s no difference.
The Repels, normal, super, and max, keep wild pokemon off your back.
Use this if you caught all the pokemon there, but just want to get from
point A to B.
I’ll let you sort out the rest.” Workman then sits in the chair.
“Now then, you kiddies are dismissed so you can fill your gut.
But I want you back here A.S.A.P.”
Lunchroom
12:08 hours
“Man, talk about strict.” James said.
“Boy, that was weird.” Kevin added.
“Hey mind if I sit here.” A girl asked.
“Sure Sue.” James said.
“How’s the training for Star Fox coming?” Kevin asked.
“Not bad. We just capped off basic training. What are you
two doing?”
“Pokemon.” James said.
“And we have to live with a drill instructor rather than a teacher.
But to tell you the truth, he knows his stuff.” Kevin added.
“Well who knows, you could catch’em all if he’s any good.”
The trio continued the conversation until the bell sounded. The three then went back to their classes.
Classroom
13:00 hours
“All right,” Workman said to get back on track.
“Now it’s time to choose your pokemon. There are three to choose
from. I know it will confuse you jack-offs, but I’ll
make it simple. You can pick Squirtle, a water pokemon, Bulbasaur,
a cross between grass and poison, or Charmander, a fire pokemon.
For you Dipdunks I suggest Bulbasaur. He’ll handle easier in the
beginning and since he’s a crossed pokemon, has some other advantages.
If you don’t like him and refuse to try him then get Squirtle. He’ll
be a bit harder in the early going, but will be the second runner up for
easy to use pokemon. If you want a challenge then your a youth.
You’re not a boy, but your not a man either. The final choice is
Charmander. He’ll be the hardest to use in the early going.
But never fear, he can still get the job done.”
Workman then pulled down a sheet that said ‘Gym Leaders and Gary’.
“Now it’s time for the tactical read outs of the gym leaders. But first Gary. He’s not a leader, but he’ll show up more often than you’d like him to. Just remember one thing. He always opens up with a flying pokemon. Plan accordingly and you doorknobs may beat him. The first gym leader is Brock. He uses rock pokemon. You ladies who picked Bulbasaur or Squirtle will have an easy time here with water or grass attacks. Those who chose Charmander need to work a little more, but he can do it. Second up is Misty. She just loves water pokemon. In fact, that’s all she uses. Those of you who picked Bulbasaur can kick some tail. Those of you who chose Charmander or Squirtle don’t have to worry your butts over it too much. Just make sure you picked up a Pikachu from the Viridian Forest. Third up is Lt. Surge, master of electric pokemon. Rock or ground pokemon is what you need here. Problem is he has a little puzzle for you to solve. Don’t overload your brains here, in one of the cans there’s a switch. Once you find it you have to find another one. Lost Dipdunks? I’m not surprised. Once you find the first one the second is above, below, or beside the first switch. Guess right, you face Surge. Guess wrong and the switches will reset, and you can have all that fun again. Forth is Erika. The grass lover. Natures pokemon. Blah. Use fire pokemon to roast her. What? You don’t have a fire pokemon? Then use flying pokemon, they work just as well. Number five is Sabrina, the pokemon psychic. You can face Koga first, but I’ll explain her first. She’s a master of psychic pokemon so a bug pokemon is worth their weight in gold here. Forget ghost though. Since they’re crossed with poison they’re not going to last long. Also use any normal attack and you should wear her down. To get to her you have to work your way trough transporters. I’ll let you get there yourself. At number six we have Koga. You can face him before Sabrina, which I advise, he’s easier than Sabrina. But don’t underestimate his poison pokemon, they can do serious damage if you let them. A ground or psychic pokemon is best here. Also a grass, crossed with poison or a ghost pokemon will work as well. To get to him you need to get around invisible walls. Don’t overload ladies, you need to stand long enough to win the competition. Next on the list, Blaine. This guy is a real hot head. So is his fire pokemon. You jerks can cool him off with water pokemon. Also, ground might work. To get to him you either a) fight lots of trainers or b) answer stupid questions. I suggest a) for the experience. Last but not least ?????????. Find out who he is for yourself. He uses ground pokemon so have water, grass, or ice pokemon ready. To get to him you need to get trough moving tiles. Then if you Dipdunks beat him your off to the big leagues. Now then, know this, your pokemon alone won’t cut it. Strong pokemon is only half the winning strategy. The rest is up to you. This completes our course of pokemon, remember what you learned Dipdunks and your pokemon may stand long enough for you to realize you made a grave mistake. Class dismissed.”
The class then left the room to practice their strategies as Workman cleaned up his desk.
“One of those kids may actually win.”
