"I can't wait to soak in some of these rays!" exclaimed Misty as she, Ash, Pikachu, and Brock walked onto the beach. They had arrived on the coast of
the mainland and decided they would stay and relax for a few days before
going on to the Seafoam Islands. The beach they were on was called
Pleasant Beach and it was famous for it's soft sands, a calm, blue ocean,
and almost constant sunshine. They all looked forward to a break from
their constant traveling.
As they walked along the beach looking for a place to change into their
swimsuits, they noticed several people scattered along the beach wearing
T-shirts that had the words, "The Pokemon Convention" in Bold Letters on
the front.
"There seems to be some sort of Pokemon convention in town," commented
Ash.
Misty rolled her eyes. "No, what gave you that idea?" Misty said
Sarcastically.
"Look, Misty don't start..." began Ash, but he was cut off by Brock.
"There's a Pokemon Convention information booth over there. Why don't
we check it out?" Brock said hurriedly, trying to stop the fight he
knew was coming. *Honestly, sometimes those two are too much. Maybe it's
because deep down they really care about each other, but don't want to
show it* he thought to himself.
They slowly made their way over to the booth that was surrounded by
people. As they got nearer, they were suddenly shoved from behind and
toppled into the front of the booth.
A female voice from the booth exclaimed, "Hey, watch where you're
going...Misty?!?"
The three friends looked up surprised. There stood Misty's three sisters!
"Hey you guys! I didn't know you were going to be in town!" Misty
exclaimed, her blue green eyes lighting up.
Brock, with a dopey look on his face said in a dopey voice, " Meeting you three beautiful flowers is always a pleasure," and starts oogling.
Misty bonked Brock on the head.
"Stop drooling over my sisters! Get a grip!"
Turning back to her sisters, Misty continues, "So anyway, what are you here for?
Did you come for the Pokemon convention?"
"Yeah, we got stuck practically running the whole thing." Daisy said.
"And now we have a major problem. The young Pokemon trainer who was supposed
to be one of the main speakers at tonight's big banquet came down with
the flu, and we don't know anyone else well enough to make sure they would
be a good speaker.," said Violet glumly.
The Lily's eyes lit up.
"Misty, would you fill in for him?! Pretty please?" She looked imploringly at
Misty.
" Eh, heh heh. I don't know you guys. I don't think I'm that great of
a speaker, and I wouldn't know what to say, and..."
Misty was cut off.
" That's not true, Misty, you did a GREAT job of giving a speech when
you talked that Tentacruel out of destroying the city! And you made it
all up, right on the spot; you just spoke from your heart!" exclaimed
Ash with great force, then he realized what he had said and just blushed,
nervously laughing.
Misty was surprised that Ash remembered.
"Well..." she said, but when she looked around and saw her sister's
pleading faces she gave in. "OK, but I'm not promising anything phenomenal."
"Thanks, Misty, we owe you one!" exclaimed her sisters.
"But right now, we need to take you shopping." said Daisy, getting
down to business.
"Take me shopping? Why is that important now?" asked Misty, looking confused.
Daisy started acting like she was talking to a little child.
"Misty, this is a formal dinner. The guest speaker can't show up in
shorts and a T-shirt." she said.
"Oh, heh heh, I guess you're right. Well lead on, sisters! It's been
a long time since I've gone on a good shopping trip!" Misty said, looking
excited.
"Alright, but we have to wait for someone to take over our booth...Oh
here they are! Right on time!" said Misty's sister happily.
As they started walking away, Misty suddenly remembered her friends.
"What about Ash and Brock?" she asked, gesturing towards them.
"Oh, of course!" exclaimed one of her sisters, "We wouldn't leave them
out!"
The sisters pulled out four tickets.
"These two are tickets to the banquet, and these two are certificates
for the fanciest men's shop around. They should get you cleaned up in time for tonight," Misty's sister Daisy said.
"Uh, gee thanks, but..." started Ash.
"But nothing, Misty needs her Boyfriend there to cheer her on," Daisy
said.
"HE IS NOT MY BOYFRIEND!" Misty yelled, seething. Ash just looked confused.
"Yeah, right, whatever," her sister said back, "then she needs her
*ahem* FRIENDS there to support her."
"We'd be honored," said Brock, trying to end the argument," besides, it means free food and maybe some pretty girls will be there! Although none could compare to your
loveliness," he started drooling again.
"Then it's all set! We'll see you at the convention center on 12th Street at seven, then," the sister replied.
Before Ash or Brock had time to reply, the Cerulean City sisters hastened on, pulling Misty with them.
"Well, I guess we'd better go on over to..." Ash paused to read the print on the certificates for the men's shop, "Pierre's Fine Men's Shop and Grooming."

Misty was having the time of her life. She had been traveling and camping around with only boys for so long, she had forgotten how much fun it was getting pampered, fussed over, and dressed up. She also realized how much she had missed her sisters. They were having such a good time just talking.
"...So that's how I caught Horsea." Misty concluded.
"Wow, Misty, it sounds like you've been having quite an exciting time since you left. It also sounds like you've gotten quite good at Pokemon training. You may want to try capturing some Pokemon other than water types. I mean, if you truly want to become excellent, you have to know how to train lots of types, and it would make you a more powerful trainer if you had a more well rounded team. Water Pokemon could still be your specialty, of course. We all know they're the best," her sisters said, each contributing to the conversation.
"Yeah, maybe you're right. I should probably get a little more serious about my training and capturing if I'm planning to really make a go of this. The thing is, I'm still not sure exactly what my goal is." Misty conceded.
She sat quietly thinking it over.
"Misty," her sister said quietly, " What are your true feelings about your "friend" Ash? It seems you like him, but are trying to hide it." Daisy said.
Misty was startled. She hadn't expected them to say anything like that, and she certainly wasn't prepared to give an answer. She wasn't sure herself what her feelings for Ash were, but when she thought about it, she realized he had been on her mind more and more lately.
"I don't know, I guess I hadn't really thought about it." she admitted.
"Well, I'm pretty sure he likes you. I can tell by the way he looks at you. And the way he stuck up for you today, I can tell he certainly at least admires you." her sister said looking at Misty lovingly (in a sisterly way, don't get any ideas!).
The beauticians entering the room interrupted their conversation.
" Well, your nails should be dry by now, lets get started on the hair and makeup, shall we?"

"Wow, Ash, I almost don't recognize you. You look great!" Brock said looking in the mirror with Ash.
Ash was straightening his bow tie, and Pikachu stood on the ground adjusting his own little tie, which was the only thing he would wear.
"Yeah, but it sure is uncomfortable. Now I remember why I didn't like wearing these things. But you sure look handsome yourself, Brock." Ash said in return.
"Heh, heh, I'm sure Misty will be impressed with you looking like a gentleman." Brock said mischievously.
Ash turned red. He tried not to think about Misty at the moment. He had been doing all too much thinking about her in the past few weeks, he realized. And she had almost caught him staring at her the other day. It was all very confusing to Ash. He had tried to sort his feelings out, but without success. He wondered why she even bothered coming on this journey, but then remembered he owed her a bike. He felt a twinge of sadness at the thought that she might only have come for that reason. At least she had stopped mentioning it all the time.
Ash cleared his throat and tried to act innocent.
"Why would she be impressed, and why would I care?" he asked nonchalantly.
Brock just rolled his eyes and went back to straightening his own tie. He wanted to look his best in case any cute girls were there.
In truth, Pierre's shop had worked its wonders. Ash and Brock both looked very handsome in their tuxedoes. They had tried without success to tame their hair so, in the end, they gave up and just brushed it so it didn't look quite so unruly. (I just couldn't picture them without their cool spiky hair. It's one of their best features! Can you imagine them with a greased back 50's do?! Ugh.)

Misty looked in the mirror. *Could that really be me? * she wondered.
Misty, with the help of her sisters had chosen a beautiful dress that was elegant, yet at the same time simple. It was blue and white silk that seemed to float around her and bring out the intense blueness of her eyes. It was perfectly cut to show off her every curve and seemed to make her look older. It had off the shoulder sleeves that were really just a soft, loose loop of fabric, and let her elegant neck and sculpted shoulders show to their best advantage. The skirt was softly ruffled and cut well above the knee showing off her long, well-shaped legs. *I guess all the hiking was good for something* she thought with a little laugh. She was wearing a silver heart pendant with a pearl in the center on a thin silver chain, and two pearl studs on her ears from which hung silver rain drops. Her hair, which she had never really bothered to do much with except putting it in her trademark pigtail, gleamed in the light. It had been done up in the back of her head in a complicated elegant style that twisted and curled and had been strewn with little diamond-like hair jewels. Her bangs had been curled and fell softly across her forehead, while her face was framed by little tendrils of hair that had been carefully curled and that brushed against her face with every move. Her sisters had said they would do her makeup themselves, and had succeeded in accentuating her already beautiful face features while still making it look like she didn't have any makeup on at all.
Her nails had been manicured and she had insisted they just put a coating of clear nail polish on instead of colored ones because she knew she wouldn't be able to keep them well painted after they left on their journey again. She had finally given in to her sisters’ persuasions and now wore a set of blue high heels with little white pearls around the edge. She thought walking in them was going to be difficult, but found to her surprise she could move around with ease after a little practice.
Her sisters stood back and looked on proudly at their sister and decided that maybe she wasn't such a "runt" after all.
Misty turned around and looked at her sisters and gave them a big hug.
"Thank you so much. I had a great time today, and I really appreciate your taking me out and helping me get ready." Misty whispered.
"You are very welcome Misty, I really enjoyed today too. You have to come home and visit us more often. We really miss having you around to argue with." Daisy said, and they all started laughing.

When Ash, Pikachu, and Brock arrived at the Convention banquet, they were amazed at how fancy it was.
"It's a good thing we went through all that trouble to dress up, this looks like a pretty fancy event," Ash said to Brock. Pikachu's eyes shone.
They looked around at the lavishly decorated room, with it's soft lighting provided by huge chandeliers that hung from the ceiling, it's rich, thick carpet, and it's finely spread tables.
"I hope Misty and her sisters get here soon; I don't want to stand around looking dumb," Ash commented.
"You always look dumb, Ash," said a voice Ash knew all to well.
Ash turned around to glare at Gary, who stood there grinning infuriatingly surrounded by his fan club chanting, "Gary Gary Gary!" like always.
"I was wondering how someone as pathetic as you got invited to a classy event like this, but now I know it was that cute red-head's sisters who set you up. Ha ha! I would have liked to have seen you begging them for tickets from them! You're the weakest, most pathetic trainer I've ever met so you wouldn't have been invited hahaha!" laughed Gary.
Ash was about to explode, saying something that would have made him look foolish and would have baited Gary on to insult him some more.
But suddenly an angry female voice from behind him stopped him short.
"How dare you insult Ash like that!" the voice exclaimed. They all turned around in surprise to see who was sticking up for Ash.
There stood Misty, looking even more beautiful because she was all fired up and angry.
Ash looked at Misty and his eyes widened. She was beautiful. He couldn't believe it. She had always been cute, but tonight she seemed like something out of a dream. Her eyes sparkled and her cheeks were flushed.
"You have no respect for other people's feelings, and if you think you're a better trainer than Ash, you've got it dead wrong! You treat your Pokemon like things, possessions, only valuable if they're powerful. You only want to win because you want to prove you're better than everyone else is, because deep down you know you're not! Ash here has always dreamed of becoming a Pokemon Master because he wanted humans and Pokemon to have an understanding of each other, and to help others realize that the only true way to be great is to care about each other and be understanding. A Pokemon's real power comes from its bond with its trainer. Ash cares deeply about each and everyone of his Pokemon, treats them with love and respect, and tries to help each of them with their needs. He trains them with kindness so that they will improve, gain confidence, and trust humans. He and his Pokemon have helped countless other people and Pokemon in need. He has helped other Pokemon learn to trust humans, and has helped other people gain an understanding and respect of Pokemon. He has accomplished all this, so in my mind he already is a Pokemon Master and I am proud to have traveled with him!" Misty finished.
Suddenly she realized everyone in the room was looking at her awestruck, and she realized that she had just told everyone LOUDLY some of her deepest feelings concerning Pokemon and... Ash. Then she realized she said it right in front of Ash. She started getting very red in the face and began to hang her head, when suddenly the entire room exploded with applause.
Misty looked up in wonder. These people were clapping at her and looking on her with approval. She looked at her sisters and found they were clapping whole-heartedly, their eyes shining. She looked at Brock and found him smiling and clapping at the same time. She looked at Gary and found him looking shameful as he and his fan club stole quickly out of the building but not without giving her an evil look first.
And lastly, she cautiously looked at Ash. His steady gaze was filled with tears, and he looked so grateful, she finally knew she had done the right thing. She suddenly noticed how handsome he looked. *Whoa* she thought, *he looks pretty good when he's cleaned up. *
Ash was amazed. *And here I thought she always disliked me. I can't believe she has such confident, strong feelings about my character. * Ash thought to himself, still looking at her in awe. He felt a strong love for her rising within him. He wondered if she felt the same way. *I wonder if I should tell her. It might ruin the friendship we already have. I had better just take it easy until I know her feelings for sure. *
The applause finally died down, but people still kept glancing admiringly at Misty and Ash, making comments among themselves. Misty, still blushing slightly, walked to a reserved table with her sisters and friends.
"Gee, Misty, you couldn't even wait until you got up on stage," her sister quipped, jokingly.
Misty laughed and said, "Nope, it was kind of a spur of the moment thing."
Brock paused between mouthfuls and said, "Well Misty, I was impressed. Maybe you should consider being a professional speaker or something."
"Yeah, Misty, you seem to have grown up a lot since the last time we got together," Lily remarked.
"And we certainly won't ever criticize your choice of boyfriends again. Ash is pretty special, too." remarked Violet.
Misty didn't reply to this but acted like she hadn't heard it. She knew denying what her sisters said after what she had just said would just make them believe it even more.
Ash, though, really didn't hear what they had said.
As they enjoyed their meal, Ash didn't say a word. There was too much turmoil inside of him to even really eat very much. He wondered if he should tell Misty how he felt about her. He glanced up and again saw her beauty. * Could she ever feel the same way about him as he did for her? * he wondered.
Misty noticed Ash's strange behavior and wondered what was wrong. Suddenly it hit her. She had embarrassed him in front of all these people. He had been mortified that she had, unintentionally of course, used him as the object of her speech. Those weren't tears of gratefulness he had; they were of shame. That must be it, she thought. A wave of sadness came over her as she realized what she had done. If he ever talked to her again, she would be surprised. She decided that she would never talk about her feelings with Ash again, in fear that she might ruin their friendship forever, if she hadn't already. She felt terrible about it.
She was quiet the rest of the meal, but everyone just thought it was because she was tired from giving such an emotionally draining speech.
Misty just wanted to curl up and forget this had ever happened. But everyone wanted to shake her hand before leaving. She tried to be as open and courteous to them as she could, but she figured that with every person who came up to shake hands with her and Ash probably made him feel that much worse. And then her sisters insisted on taking a picture of her and Ash together. "Smile!" said Daisy, who was taking the picture. After the picture was taken, Misty looked over towards Ash, but he turned away and she remembered once again what she had done. She was so angry with herself. How could she have used and hurt Ash like that?
Later that night when they got to the hotel where they were staying, there seemed to be lots people there who had heard about the young people. By the time they finally got to their rooms, everyone was exhausted, so they all turned in. Ash and Misty were the last two to go into their rooms.
Before entering her room, Misty turned directly to Ash with tears in her eyes and whispered, "I'm sorry Ash."
She quickly ran into her room and shut the door.
Of all things she could have said, that was the thing that surprised him the most. He sighed. He had heard women were hard to figure out, but he didn't know they were cryptic. Maybe she was just tired... He entered the room he and Brock were sharing and flopped on one of the beds. He'd try to figure it all out in the morning.
Misty crept into bed, willing sleep to come quickly. She didn't want to think right now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, a VERY displeased Gary fumed in his hotel room. *That pretty little vixen embarrassed me in front of all those people* he thought to himself. Well, he would pay HER back. *Just you wait* he mentally said to Misty. *Just you wait...* But in his heart, he knew what she had said was true.
